Classic Vision Care is hiring an Optometric Technician who can take excellent care of patients, learn quickly, and help the entire office succeed.
Your primary work will be optometric technician duties: preparing patients for the doctor, completing pretesting, documenting accurately, and keeping patient flow organized. You will also perform some optician duties as your skills allow, including helping with frames and lenses, eyewear pickup and dispensing support, adjustments, repairs, contact-lens teaching, and optical follow-up.
This is a small, cross-trained practice. There is no narrow “that is not my job” lane. Every team member may be asked to help with any non-provider office duty that is lawful, safe, within the person's training and allowed scope, and needed to care for patients or keep the office operating. That can include phones, scheduling, check-in or check-out support, cleaning, stocking, paperwork, optical support, and helping another department during a busy period.
What You Will DoOptometric technician and patient-care duties
- Welcome patients, explain each step, and help them feel comfortable and cared for.
- Collect and confirm patient information accurately before the doctor visit.
- Perform pretesting and diagnostic-support tasks, including retinal photos and visual-field testing, after competency has been demonstrated.
- Prepare exam rooms, equipment, and supplies for the patient and doctor.
- Enter information accurately and provide clear, complete handoffs.
- Notice delays, errors, or patient concerns early; communicate them and help drive the solution.
- Teach contact-lens insertion and removal after demonstrating competency, when assigned.
Optical and optician-support duties
- Help patients with frames, lenses, eyewear pickup, and basic optical questions as your skills allow.
- Support eyewear dispensing, adjustments, and repairs after demonstrating competency.
- Help track optical orders, follow-up needs, remakes, delays, and patient concerns.
- Keep the optical area clean, organized, stocked, and ready for patients.
- Continue building practical optical knowledge as part of becoming a more valuable cross-trained team member.
Whole-office duties
- Answer phones and support scheduling, check-in, check-out, and patient communication when needed.
- Clean and reset patient-care and shared work areas.
- Stock supplies and flag shortages before they become problems.
- Help teammates during busy periods or coverage gaps.
- Take ownership of other reasonable office work assigned within your training, safety requirements, and allowed scope.
How Success Is Measured
We look at both results and behavior.
- Patient experience: Patients feel welcomed, heard, informed, and cared for.
- Accuracy and safety: Testing, documentation, equipment use, optical support, and handoffs are dependable.
- Patient flow: You help keep the day moving without making patients feel rushed.
- Ownership: You surface mistakes and concerns early, take responsibility, and close the loop.
- Reliability: You are prepared, on time, and communicate early when a real issue affects your schedule.
- Learning and initiative: You take notes, practice, ask useful questions, use available resources, and do not wait passively for every next step.
- Coachability: You apply feedback and avoid repeating the same preventable mistake.
- Team contribution: You help wherever the office needs you, communicate directly and respectfully, and do not create a “not my job” boundary.
Specific performance targets are taught and reviewed based on the responsibilities the employee has demonstrated they can perform safely and independently.
Our Training Reality
This is a hands-on learning environment, not a formal classroom-style training program. Teammates will demonstrate work, answer questions, and give feedback, but you will be expected to own a meaningful part of your development.
That means taking notes, studying unfamiliar concepts, practicing deliberately, asking focused questions, learning from mistakes, and following through until you can perform the work reliably. Someone who needs every step repeated or waits for constant direction will struggle here. Someone who is curious, resourceful, accountable, and comfortable learning by doing can grow quickly.
Prior optometry, ophthalmology, optical, medical-office, hospitality, retail, restaurant, teaching, or customer-service experience can help. Direct eye-care experience is valuable, but strong behavior, judgment, and learning ability can outweigh a less direct background.
Culture and Working Style
Our strongest teammates:
- Do what they say they will do.
- Take care of the patient in front of them.
- Look for the next useful action instead of waiting to be told every step.
- Ask good questions and care about small details.
- Admit mistakes early and help fix them.
- Give and receive feedback respectfully.
- Help outside their primary lane when the office needs it.
- Communicate directly—no gossip, blame, or hidden dropped balls.
This role is a strong fit for someone who likes clear standards, candid feedback, meaningful responsibility, and visible results. It is not a strong fit for someone who wants a narrowly defined task list, avoids feedback, or expects another person to solve every problem.
Development Path
Development is based on demonstrated skills, reliability, patient experience, ownership, and the ability to contribute across the office. The path is toward becoming a stronger, more independent, cross-trained technician and potentially earning senior, lead, or additional operational responsibilities when performance and business needs support it.
This is not a promised certified-optician track, and advancement does not depend on receiving a certified-optician title. Pay and responsibility can grow as useful competencies are demonstrated consistently.
What We Are Looking For
- Warm, professional communication with patients and teammates.
- Strong reliability and follow-through.
- Initiative and evidence of learning unfamiliar work.
- Good judgment in busy or emotionally charged situations.
- Careful attention to detail and willingness to follow clinical, privacy, safety, and office procedures.
- Willingness to perform technician, optical-support, front-office, cleaning, stocking, and other reasonable cross-trained duties.
- Ability to work on-site and travel reliably between Kennesaw and East Cobb/Marietta.
- Comfort using computers and learning new software and equipment.
- A record of growth, responsibility, service, or strong performance in work, school, or another meaningful setting.
Classic Vision Care considers candidates based on their ability to care for patients, learn the work, contribute across the practice, and strengthen the team.
