Full Job Description

AmeriCorps members commit to a year of community service averaging 23 hours per week (minimum of 1200 hours annually from September 1, 2026 through August 31, 2027) and in return receive a living allowance of $14,662 per year of service ($563 gross per semimonthly pay check), 3 bonuses of $705 each throughout the year, plus an educational award of $5,697 upon successful term completion that can be used for either new advanced education tuition or for re-payment of existing student loans. Health insurance is available at no cost for AmeriCorps members, and child care benefits assistance is provided to qualifying AmeriCorps members. Extensive pre-service and in-service training opportunities are required and are provided free of charge to participating AmeriCorps members throughout Wisconsin.

Essential Duties:

· Outreach in schools, community events, local organizations etc.,

· Public Relations Interviews (Radio, television and other media)

· Represent SAFE Haven at events, meetings and trainings

· Make direct contact with homeless or otherwise hard to reach high risk youth at informal gathering places for purposes of providing prevention materials, referral information, and healthy alternatives to the street.

· Participate as co-leader, presenter, etc. in youth groups and activities in order to provide prevention, intervention, and the promotion of accessing SAFE Haven services

· Facilitate group discussions on topics such as personal safety, harm reduction, cultivating healthy relationships, promoting mental wellness, and practicing mindfulness.

· Listen, validate, and assess high risk youth

Counsels girls individually or collectively, and makes referrals as needed.

Stimulates interest and enthusiasm within the community for agency activities and interprets agency programs to interested individuals and groups. Builds contacts within the community which will expand services for youth.

Initiates and cooperates in inter-agency collaborative efforts that serve youth and to serve as an advocate for youth in the community.

Establishes and maintains contacts within the community, including schools, volunteers and coordinators and supports agency event planning and execution.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

· Applicants must be at least 21 years old. Applicant must have a High School degree or its equivalent

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

· Organized, reliable, and able to maintain privileged client information.

· Ability to work effectively within a nontraditional setting with a diverse population.

· ·Must commit to the position for the full year from September 1, 2026 through August 31, 2027. A second full-year term may be available upon successful completion of first-year AmeriCorps member service.

· Expected to attend monthly staff meetings and weekly supervisor meetings

Language Skills

Proficient verbal and written communication skills, including active listening skills.

Computer Skills

Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and internet communications such as webmail.

Other

Must be at least 21 years of age

Empathy for people who are often in difficult circumstances.

Excellent problem solving skills and mature judgment.

– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

– Organized, reliable, and able to maintain privileged client information.

– Expected to meet with supervisor weekly.

Physical Demands

Must be able to climb three flights of stairs in 90 seconds.
