Position Summary
The GI Technician assists physicians and nursing staff in providing safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care before, during, and after endoscopic procedures. Responsibilities include procedure room preparation, assisting during procedures, endoscope reprocessing, equipment maintenance, and ensuring compliance with infection prevention and safety standards.
Duties & Responsibilities:
· Prepare procedure rooms, equipment, and supplies for endoscopic procedures.
· Assist physicians and nursing staff during GI procedures.
· Clean, disinfect, and reprocess endoscopes and accessories according to manufacturer instructions and infection prevention guidelines.
· Perform leak testing, high-level disinfection, storage, and documentation of endoscope reprocessing.
· Transport specimens and ensure proper labeling and handling.
· Restock procedure rooms and monitor inventory of supplies.
· Assist with patient positioning and transport as needed.
· Perform routine equipment checks and report equipment malfunctions promptly.
· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
· Follow OSHA, HIPAA, infection prevention, and facility policies and procedures.
· Participate in quality improvement activities, required training, and competency assessments.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience, Competencies, and Education:
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Previous GI Technician, Surgical Technician, Medical Assistant, CNA, or other healthcare experience preferred.
· BLS/CPR certification required or ability to obtain upon hire.
· Knowledge of infection prevention principles and endoscope reprocessing preferred.
· Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
· Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, squatting, and kneeling.
· Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally with assistance when appropriate.
· Manual dexterity to safely handle endoscopic equipment, instruments, and supplies.
· Visual acuity and hearing sufficient to monitor procedures, inspect equipment, and communicate effectively.
· Ability to assist with patient positioning and transfers using proper body mechanics.
· Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, gowns, masks, eye protection, and face shields, for extended periods.
Work Environment
· Work is performed primarily in an outpatient endoscopy center and procedure rooms.
· Frequent exposure to blood, bodily fluids, infectious materials, cleaning agents, disinfectants, and sterilization chemicals.
· Regular use of specialized endoscopy equipment and medical devices.
· Fast-paced environment requiring attention to detail, teamwork, and multitasking.
· Frequent interaction with physicians, nurses, patients, and other healthcare professionals.
· Compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, CDC, infection prevention, and facility safety standards is required.
· May require flexible scheduling, including early mornings, overtime, or floating to other clinical areas as needed.
Pay: $19.00 - $26.50 per hour
