Full Job Description

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Kentucky Venues serves as the principal executive strategist and steward for all financial operations, capital assets, and fiscal governance across the agency’s premier properties, including the Kentucky Exposition Center (KEC) and the Kentucky International Convention Center (KICC). Reporting directly to the Chief of Staff and working in close alignment with the Kentucky State Fair Board, the CFO provides vision and direction for biennial budgeting, multi-year revenue modeling, and long-range capital improvement planning. This role is responsible for ensuring fiscal integrity, modernizing financial and operational processes, strengthening internal controls, and maintaining compliance with applicable accounting standards, policies, regulations, and best practices. The CFO provides strategic leadership that supports organizational sustainability, operational excellence, and informed decision-making across the enterprise.

Full-time 37.5 per week

$150,000 annually ~ Commensurate with experience

Essential Functions: These statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required, other duties may be assigned.

· Internal Controls & Financial Governance: Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive internal controls, accounting procedures, and cash management practices that promote financial integrity, operational efficiency, risk mitigation, and sound fiscal stewardship.

· Financial Reporting & Treasury Management: Oversee the preparation and presentation of financial statements, management reports, and organizational performance metrics while monitoring cash flow, liquidity, investments, and financial resources to support operational and strategic objectives.

· Interdepartmental Financial Leadership: Provide strategic financial guidance, accounting expertise, and budget oversight to organizational departments and business units to support informed decision-making, fiscal accountability, and effective resource allocation.

· Leadership & Talent Management: Direct and support accounting, financial reporting, procurement, billing, collections, and budgeting functions by establishing performance expectations, developing staff capabilities, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

· External Relations & Audit Management: Maintain collaborative relationships with financial institutions, insurers, auditors, and external stakeholders while coordinating annual financial audits and ensuring timely resolution of audit findings and recommendations.

· Financial Operations & Procurement Oversight: Oversee organizational disbursements, purchasing activities, vendor payments, and financial transactions while ensuring appropriate authorization, documentation, accountability, and stewardship of organizational assets and resources.

· Financial Reconciliation & Executive Support: Direct the reconciliation of financial obligations, payroll-related liabilities, insurance programs, and other organizational financial commitments while providing strategic analysis and support to executive leadership and the governing board.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

· Office and event facility settings with moderate to high noise levels.

· Will have to traverse facility space, including stairs, ramps, escalators/elevators and heavily occupied spaces

· Usual work hours are weekdays, but during months of in-house events, work hours may include evenings, late nights, early mornings, weekends and holidays; working more than standard hours depending on business needs.

· May travel locally and regionally

· Exposure to varied climates and elements including livestock, hay, dirt/dust, and exhaust fumes, moving vehicles, mechanical equipment and cleaning chemicals

· Must be able to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

EDUCATION LEVEL, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Preferred or necessary skills, abilities or knowledge based on position requirements and business necessity. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

· Graduate of an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field.

· Must possess a minimum of eight (8) years of professional experience in accounting, corporate finance, or public fiscal administration, at least four (4) years of which must have been spent in a senior-level supervisory or administrative management capacity

· An active license as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) issued by the Kentucky Board of Accountancy (or reciprocal state board) will substitute for one (1) year of the required general experience, and is preferred.

· Must be able to pass a standard criminal background check as required for executive-level state positions.

· Must be eligible to work in the United States
