Summary of Purpose:
Works closely with the Mayor, business and community leaders, developers, regional partners, and government agencies to attract investment, promote business growth, advance strategic development initiatives, and enhance the quality of life for Jeffersontown residents. Assists in directing the growth of a broad-based Community Development Strategy, including community and economic development while providing direct support for the Mayor. Assists in directing urban renewal, model cities, and downtown revitalization functions. Involved in the development of various elements of community planning, including town planning, transportation/access management, neighborhood, land use and recreational/open space. Liaison to state legislators, metro council and state government when requested by the Mayor. Performs work under the general direction of the Mayor.
Duties (Essential Functions):
1. Develops and directs the implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for the long-term vision and development of the City to ensure that growth and development is safe and consistent with City policy.
2. Develops and directs a strategic approach to the growth, development and revitalization of the town center.
3. Provides information, policy recommendations and staff support for varied appointed commissions and committees concerned with community development, neighborhoods, transportation/access management and community planning matters.
4. Represents the City in meetings with representatives of governmental agencies, professional, business and community organizations and the public.
5. Monitors developments related to planning, construction of City capital projects/special projects, grant and bond programs, evaluating the impact of each upon City operations and recommends policy changes.
6. Provides technical assistance and advice to the City Council as directed by the Mayor.
7. Provides liaison to Jeffersontown Chamber as directed by the Mayor.
8. Provides liaison to the Metro Council as directed by the Mayor.
9. Provides liaison to the Metro government and Metro Mayor as directed by the Mayor.
10. Provides liaison to Frankfortand KY Legislators as directed by the Mayor.
11. Provides supervisory duties and implements other programs as delegated by the Mayor.
12. Performs other duties as assigned by the Mayor.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university in Public/Business Administration or related field.
Experience:
Five years of senior-level executive experience in Community/Economic Development, and/or City/Regional Planning or public administration preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Knowledge of and proficiency in various computer software, including Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Access, and other related programs such as ARC View and AutoCAD;
· Working knowledge of customer service, public service and progressive advancement in civic involvement, community relations, and the ability to negotiate and mediate different situations that may arise from time to time in the normal operation of a local government;
· Knowledge of pertinent local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations;
· Interpersonal and organizational skills

Physical Requirements:
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, and to attend meetings at various sites within and away from the City. Must have availability to work off-hours shifts or events as required.; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person, over the telephone, or through written correspondence.
Additional Requirements:
Possession of a valid Kentucky Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment.
Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
