Job Description:
Western Kentucky University invites applications for the position of Departmental Collaborative Pianist, Visiting Instructor to begin in Fall 2026. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, nine-month temporary appointment for the 2026-27 academic year. The Department of Music anticipates conducting a search for a permanent position during the 2026-27 academic year. The anticipated start date for this appointment is August 15, 2026. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Relevant professional collaborative piano experience. A high level of artistry demonstrated through excellent technical facility, outstanding sight-reading skill, the ability to learn music quickly, and knowledge of both instrumental and vocal repertoire. Demonstrated success in teaching and mentoring piano students in collaborative piano. Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and guest artists in a fast-paced academic environment. Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coordinate schedules, manage multiple requests, and maintain clear communication across the department.
Responsibilities
Exact duties to be assigned by the Department Chair and may include:
- Providing collaborative piano services for the music department, including student recitals, juries, applied lessons, rehearsals, studio classes, departmental auditions, and other departmental performances and events. Services may also include collaborating with faculty, guest artists, and ensembles.

Serving as Coordinator of Collaborative Piano Services for the department, including managing intake of collaborative piano service requests, coordinating and distributing workload to part-time collaborative pianists, and maintaining communication with faculty and students regarding assignments and scheduling.

Teaching collaborative piano/accompanying courses to piano majors.

Working flexible hours in accordance with rehearsal and performance schedules.

Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:

Earned advanced degree in collaborative piano, piano performance, or piano-related degree with an emphasis in collaborative piano by August 1, 2026.

Master's degree
