SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00PM. Includes times of on-call as needed.

As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Transportation Safety Manager to join our Louisville leadership team. Reporting directly to the Director of Safety, this position is ideal for a safety professional who brings a solid foundation in transportation safety, regulatory compliance, employee coaching, and risk management, while remaining eager to learn and grow within a successful organization.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader who can contribute from day one, build positive relationships throughout the organization, and support the department's established goals and initiatives. This individual will work closely with the Director of Safety, gaining a deeper understanding of Miller Transportation's operations and safety culture while helping drive continuous improvement across the organization. The position offers meaningful opportunities for professional growth and increased leadership responsibility as experience and success are demonstrated.
This is an on-site position based in Louisville, Kentucky. While the primary work schedule is Monday through Friday, occasional availability outside normal business hours may be required to address urgent safety or operational matters.
Position Summary
The Transportation Safety Manager is a key member of the Safety Department and works in partnership with the Director of Safety to support and advance the company's safety programs, regulatory compliance efforts, driver development initiatives, accident investigations, and facility safety operations.
This position requires a professional who can effectively apply prior safety and compliance experience while learning the specific operational practices, standards, and expectations that have contributed to Miller Transportation's long-standing success. The successful candidate will be expected to provide leadership, guidance, and support to employees while collaborating closely with the Director of Safety and other department leaders.
Working alongside operations, maintenance, training, and leadership teams, the Transportation Safety Manager will play an active role in strengthening safety performance throughout the organization. As the individual gains experience within Miller Transportation and demonstrates leadership capabilities, the role offers opportunities for expanded responsibilities and future career advancement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a point of contact for employee safety questions, concerns, and guidance.
- Conduct transportation risk assessments and recommend corrective actions to mitigate risk.
- Supervise and support Driver Trainers and Safety Administration personnel.
- Drive proactive safety initiatives, campaigns, safety meetings and employee engagement programs.
- Evaluate driver performance and identify coaching, retraining, and development opportunities.
- Establish and manage follow-up programs for newly hired drivers to ensure successful onboarding and performance.
- Assist with accident investigations, post-incident reviews, insurance claims, and documentation collection.
- Ensure timely completion and submission of all accident-related reports and regulatory documentation.
- Coordinate required driver and employee training programs while maintaining accurate training records.
- Identify and implement cross-training opportunities to enhance workforce flexibility and operational readiness.
- Ensure all vehicles maintain proper licensing, permits, inspections, and required documentation.
- Monitor and maintain compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintain accurate electronic systems and paper records for regulatory reporting, audits, and internal compliance tracking.
- Support Driver hiring process.
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Promote and reinforce a positive safety culture throughout the organization.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Transportation Safety experience required
- CDL and/or commercial driving experience preferred but not required.
- Working knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and transportation safety regulations preferred.

Additional Requirements
- Must comply with Miller Transportation's Background Screening and Drug/Alcohol Screening Policy, including pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion testing requirements.
- Must be available to respond to safety and operational matters outside normal business hours when needed.
- Ability to travel occasionally between company locations & industry meetings as required.
