Job Description – Vascular Technologist (Travel)
Department: Non-Invasive Cardiology
Location: Louisville, KY 40217
Schedule: 36 Hours/Week | Three 12-Hour Shifts (Wednesday–Friday)
Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
Position Summary
Facility is seeking a skilled Vascular Technologist to join its Non-Invasive Cardiology team. The ideal candidate will have experience performing comprehensive non-invasive vascular diagnostic studies to evaluate peripheral vascular disease while providing exceptional patient care. This position requires proficiency in duplex ultrasound imaging, vascular physiology, and the evaluation of arterial and venous disorders using established departmental protocols.
The Vascular Technologist will collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to obtain accurate diagnostic information, ensure quality patient care, and support timely clinical decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive non-invasive vascular diagnostic examinations following physician orders and departmental protocols.
- Obtain and document complete patient vascular histories and perform thorough vascular assessments.
- Verify physician orders and determine the appropriateness of requested vascular studies.
- Select appropriate ultrasound equipment and imaging techniques based on patient presentation and examination objectives.
- Perform and interpret high-quality duplex ultrasound examinations of arterial and venous systems.
- Evaluate vascular morphology and physiology to identify normal and abnormal findings.
- Recognize vascular pathology and document anatomical, physiological, and pathological findings accurately.
- Identify and correct technical artifacts to ensure optimal image quality and diagnostic accuracy.
- Observe, monitor, and document patient responses during vascular examinations.
- Notify physicians and lead technologists immediately of critical findings requiring urgent intervention.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to optimize patient outcomes.
- Educate patients regarding vascular procedures and provide appropriate health education.
- Maintain accurate documentation within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and vascular reporting systems.
- Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives and maintain compliance with departmental, hospital, and accreditation standards.
- Maintain competency with current vascular diagnostic technologies and continuing education requirements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Education
Must meet one of the following:
Associate's Degree in:
- Vascular Sonography
- Cardiovascular Technology
- Diagnostic Medical Sonography
- Allied Health
OR
Bachelor's Degree in:
- Vascular Sonography
- Cardiovascular Technology
- Diagnostic Medical Sonography
- Allied Health
OR
- Completion of an accredited Vascular Sonography, Cardiovascular Technology, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, or Allied Health training program.
Experience
- Minimum one (1) year of recent experience performing non-invasive vascular testing.
- Demonstrated clinical proficiency performing vascular diagnostic examinations independently.
- Experience following established vascular laboratory protocols.
- Strong understanding of vascular anatomy, physiology, pathology, and disease processes.

Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is an experienced Registered Vascular Technologist/Sonographer with at least one year of independent vascular laboratory experience in an acute care setting. They possess strong expertise in duplex ultrasound imaging, vascular physiology, carotid, arterial, venous, and visceral vascular studies, and are committed to delivering accurate diagnostic results while providing exceptional patient-centered care. This role is best suited for a technologist who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced hospital environment and maintains the highest standards of quality, safety, and clinical excellence.
Pay: $48.00 - $50.00 per hour
