Job Summary
Light of Chance, Incorporated (www.lightofchance.org) is a creative and innovative non-profit organization founded in 2005 that specializes in youth development. We are currently accepting applications for a new part-time position as an art Youth Specialist for our Breathe Youth Arts Program in the area of visual arts. The positions are hourly (and flexible) with pay rates of $10. Typical workweeks are 10-15 hours, with occasional weeks of 25+ hours.
ABOUT BREATHE:
Launched in 2012, Breathe provides free year-round arts sessions for grades 5-12 in Madisonville, Kentucky. Breathe Youth Arts Program is a community-based, youth development program that cultivates creativity while providing a positive environment for youth to express themselves, engage in dialogue about important issues, and experience personal and social transformation through the arts. The program provides constructive creative outlets, encourages cooperation, and teamwork; as well as teaches artistic and social skills in an environment where youth are valued and celebrated.
Responsibilities and Duties
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Implement and facilitate art curriculum.
- Interact with under served and vulnerable youth populations.
- Develop positive relationships with the youth involved.
- Acts as a positive role model.
- Create and fosters a support network for youth
- Assist with record keeping and program evaluation.
- Foster relationships with school systems and other agencies.
- Coordinate the recruitment of volunteers.
- Assist with special events.
- Assist with coordinating weekly transportation.
- Assist with developing and implementing program goals and objectives.
- Work directly with Executive Director
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
Applicant must exhibit interest in art and community outreach programs. In addition, must be willing to undergo a criminal history background check. The applicant must be self-motivated and accountable. He or she will have proven initiative and will have utilized innovative approaches. The ideal candidate will be flexible with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and will be able to work successfully under pressure and meet deadlines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least (1) year experience working with youth in mentoring and/or teaching. A college degree preferred.
- Team-oriented, flexible, enthusiastic, creative, and dedicated to the formation and philosophy of the development of youth.
- Ability to establish and maintain personal and programmatic boundaries while providing supportive services.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to individuals who may not share basic commonality, including value systems and behavior norms.
- Experience in working with culturally diverse communities and families, with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate.
- Demonstrate good writing and organizational skills as well as strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and be a US citizen or lawful permanent resident.
- Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, video production applications, and social networking.
- A valid state driver's license, a satisfactory driving record and reliable transportation.
