Store Manager

Overview:

The Store Manager (SM) of a Wild Birds Unlimited store is a key member of the leadership team; and is critical in coaching, developing, and motivating sales associates to directly impact the organizational and overall goals. The position of Store Manager reports to the Director of Operations. The primary responsibility of the Store Manager is to profitably manage the day-to-day operations of the store by following the best practices, as well as directing and coaching the store associates to provide a High-Energy Customer Experience.

Responsibilities:

Store Operations

Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the store including inventory management, ordering products, and proactively identifying opportunities to improve the operations of the store.
Maintains adequate inventory levels based on seasonality and to the monthly Inventory Budget. Communicates information regarding inventory turn.
Responsible for all aspects of the receiving process and pricing updates.
Continually works towards achieving monthly & annual sales goals and operational metrics while controlling expenses.
Regularly reviews current store activities and results with Operations Director. Is solution-focused and communicates opportunities to improve effectiveness, efficiencies, and cost savings, and to establish or revise future operating plans.
Attends weekly or biweekly calls with Operations Director. Attends Zoom calls as scheduled.

Selling / Customer Experience

Delivers the high-energy customer experience, WBU’s #1 priority, as the trusted local expert. Knows the WBU Customer Experience Touch Points and leads by example.
Uses successful customer engagement skills when selling to customers. Models this behavior with the store team.
Directs and coaches the team on best practices of the High-Energy Customer Experience so that every customer leaves the store with a Smile, a memorable experience, and a reason to come back.
Acts as a forward-facing ambassador of WBU in-store with customers regularly.
Engages customers on the benefits of Daily Savings Club (DSC) Membership program. Profiles each new member by attaining their email and mailing address.
Coaches the store team to know and actively engage customers on the benefits of the WBU target products and WBU Seasonally Savvy items.
Directs and coaches the store team on the best practices of the Person in Charge of the Customer (PIC) experience.

Team Management

Reads, understands and follows our Employee Handbook.
Demonstrates a positive, enthusiastic, and professional demeanor and communicates well with team members. Embraces and emulates our core values.
Proactively participates in hiring, training, and coaching of store associates.
Completes annual performance evaluations of store team members.
Conducts monthly staff meetings regarding product and hobby knowledge, store information, and sales and customer experience training.
Schedules staff efficiently within the payroll budget. Adheres to the WBU promotional black-out days when scheduling.
Communicates policy or procedural changes to staff on a timely basis.
Follows progressive discipline steps when necessary.

Marketing

Implements the Marketing Planner as directed by the Operations Team.
Prepares displays, signing, staffing for upcoming promotions and events.
Fosters a Community Outreach program which includes community talks, in-store seminars, and store communication. Works closely with our Marketing Manager to regularly submit information regarding upcoming events and product imagery.

Administrative Control

Adheres to all store policies and procedures regarding the ringing of all transactions, any administrative duties and scheduling.
Responsible for ensuring that bank deposits are made twice weekly.
Keeps store office and backroom clean and organized.

Loss Prevention

Adheres to all store policies and procedures regarding personal and store security.
Trains staff on security awareness and loss prevention measures.
Communicates security concerns to Operations Director/Owners.

Store Maintenance

Maintains good housekeeping standards to help establish clean and well-presented store.
Ensures store personnel adhere to store cleanliness standards.

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

Must have at least 3 to 5 years of retail management experience. College degree or relevant technical or vocational training preferred.
Interest in the backyard bird feeding hobby or nature preferred but not required.
Must be skilled in leadership, coaching, and training, sales generation, strategic planning, customer service, communication, conflict resolution, business acumen, time management, POS terminals, and general retail software proficiency. Use of Microsoft Retail Management Point of Sale software a plus, but not required.
Must be able to provide feedback, develop others, embrace, and lead change, and make clear and defined decisions.
Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to act with integrity and professionalism to ensure that all business is conducted without bias or prejudice.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., perform frequent standing, walking, repetitive finger, hand and wrist motions, as well as bending, stooping, reaching, squatting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and climbing ladders.
Must be available to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business, which will include closing and weekend shifts and working during busy holiday periods and bi-annual seed sales.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
