Job Summary

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Sous Chef to join our university dining team. This role is essential in delivering high-quality, nutritious, and delicious meals to students, faculty, and staff in a dynamic campus environment. As a key leader in the kitchen, you will oversee daily food production, manage kitchen operations, and ensure that all food safety standards are met. The ideal candidate is energetic, detail-oriented, and ready to lead a team to culinary excellence while maintaining a welcoming and efficient dining atmosphere.

Responsibilities

Assist in supervising daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, and presentation of menu items across various dining services.
Lead and manage kitchen staff by providing guidance, training, and support to ensure smooth shift transitions and high-quality food production.
Oversee food safety sanitizing procedures, proper handling practices, and sanitation standards to maintain a safe working environment.
Coordinate menu planning with dietary departments to accommodate special dietary needs and ensure nutritional standards are met.
Manage inventory control by monitoring stock levels, ordering supplies, and minimizing waste through effective inventory management techniques.
Support catering and banquet events by preparing large quantities of food while maintaining quality and presentation standards.
Assist in cost control efforts by managing food costs, portion sizes, and waste reduction strategies to optimize operational efficiency.

Experience

Proven supervisory experience in a culinary setting, preferably within a university or large-scale dining environment.
Extensive culinary experience with strong skills in food production, food handling, and kitchen management.
Familiarity with fine dining standards as well as catering or banquet service experience.
Knowledge of food safety sanitizing procedures, inventory management, and cost control techniques.
Experience working with dietary departments to develop menus that meet nutritional guidelines and accommodate special diets.
Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage teams effectively while fostering a positive work environment.
Background in restaurant management or hospitality roles is highly desirable for this position.
