Position Overview
The Yacht Captain / Vessel Operations Consultant will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and professional operation of a luxury private yacht. This role requires an experienced maritime professional who can oversee navigation, vessel readiness, maintenance coordination, guest experience, and overall yacht operations while ensuring compliance with all applicable maritime laws and regulations.
The ideal candidate will provide exceptional service, anticipate the needs of the Client and guests, and maintain the highest standards of safety, reliability, and discretion.
Key Responsibilities:
Routine Yacht Maintenance Responsibilities
Weekly Services
- Complete topside wash and dry.
- Conduct visual inspections and run mechanical equipment.
- Remove and replace exterior covers for use or storage.
- Review vessel condition and identify maintenance needs.
- Drive the yacht once a week if idle and as required or requested by the owner
Bi-Weekly Services
- Complete interior cleaning.
- Coordinate dockside holding tank pump-outs.
Monthly Services
- Conduct comprehensive maintenance inspections and provide written reports.
- Perform bottom cleaning and diver inspections with reports.
- Inspect and replace running gear zincs as needed.
Vessel Operations & Safety
- Responsible for the safe and reliable operation of the vessel, including navigation, steering, and overall seaworthiness.
- Ensure the yacht is fully prepared and operational for all scheduled trips, voyages, and guest use.
- Plan and execute short- and long-distance voyages, including international crossings such as trips to the Bahamas.
- Develop voyage plans, conduct risk assessments, and adjust routes based on weather, sea conditions, and other factors.
- Maintain detailed voyage logs, including weather conditions, navigation details, and significant events.
- Ensure compliance with maritime laws, safety regulations, navigation requirements, and environmental standards.
- Manage emergency situations and ensure proper safety protocols are followed at all times.
Client & Guest Experience
- Provide exceptional, personalized service tailored to the Client’s preferences and expectations.
- Ensure the comfort, safety, and satisfaction of the Client and guests while onboard.
- Assist with itinerary planning, onboard activities, and travel arrangements.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism, discretion, and hospitality.
Yacht Maintenance & Management
- Oversee the full operation and maintenance of the luxury private yacht.
- Conduct routine inspections and ensure the vessel remains in excellent condition.
- Perform approved maintenance tasks and oversee major repairs completed by qualified vendors.
- Review maintenance records, survey reports, and recommendations.
- Complete detailed yacht inspections and maintain an inventory of equipment and maintenance needs.
- Provide regular maintenance reports, findings, and recommendations to the Client.
- Personally supervise vendors and service providers to ensure quality workmanship and cost-effective outcomes.
- Obtain competitive bids and manage vendor relationships to achieve the best financial results for the Client.
Administrative & Financial Management
- Manage onboard operational expenses, budgeting, and accounting.
- Maintain accurate records, logs, invoices, and maintenance documentation.
- Communicate regularly with the Client, including weekly updates and meetings as needed.
Seasonal & Voyage Support
- Be available during scheduled vessel use, including overnight stays onboard during trips and extended voyages.
- Coordinate safe vessel relocation during hurricane season or other weather-related events.
- Provide operational support to ensure the yacht is always ready for immediate use.
Qualifications & Experience
- USCG License Preferred
- Extensive experience operating and managing luxury private yachts.
- Strong knowledge of vessel navigation, safety procedures, and maritime regulations.
- Experience planning and executing offshore and international voyages preferred.
- Proven ability to manage yacht maintenance, vendors, and service providers.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to provide exceptional service with professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail.
- Flexible availability to support Client travel schedules, including overnight voyages.
Pay: $40.00 - $50.00 per hour
