Position Summary
A rapidly growing GovTech and public safety technology company is seeking a Senior Vice President of Engineering to help scale its mission-critical software platform during a major national expansion phase.
This is a senior executive engineering leadership role for someone who has successfully scaled cloud software platforms, engineering organizations, architecture, and delivery operations in fast-growing environments.
The company has recently rebuilt much of its technology foundation and is now entering its next phase of scale. The incoming SVP of Engineering will help mature the engineering organization, improve delivery discipline, strengthen platform scalability and security, and build the internal technical infrastructure needed to support rapid growth.
This is not a detached executive role. The company needs a player-coach engineering leader who can operate strategically while still being close enough to the technology and engineering teams to drive execution, improve architecture, mentor technical leaders, and help the company scale responsibly.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead long-term technology strategy, architecture, scalability, security, and platform direction
- Scale engineering teams, leadership structure, and technical operations during a major growth phase
- Improve release discipline, QA, DevOps, sprint execution, and delivery predictability
- Build scalable engineering processes without slowing company execution or agility
- Guide cloud infrastructure, APIs, integrations, mobile applications, geospatial services, and AI-enabled workflows
- Strengthen platform security, compliance, uptime, monitoring, disaster recovery, and incident response capabilities
- Recruit, mentor, and develop engineering leaders, architects, managers, and technical contributors
- Help transition outsourced development work into a stronger internal engineering organization
- Partner closely with Product, Sales, Customer Success, Implementation, and executive leadership
- Support customer commitments by ensuring technical plans and delivery timelines are realistic and executable
- Help move the organization from founder-led execution toward a more scalable engineering operating model
- Balance speed, quality, scalability, and security while maintaining operational urgency and accountability
Required Qualifications
- Significant engineering leadership experience within SaaS, cloud software, GovTech, mission-critical software, or related environments
- Proven experience scaling engineering teams, systems, and enterprise software platforms in high-growth environments
- Strong cloud architecture and enterprise software background
- Experience with APIs, integrations, mobile applications, data platforms, and high-availability systems
- Experience improving engineering process maturity, QA, DevOps, release management, and delivery predictability
- Strong executive communication and organizational leadership skills
- Ability to balance speed, scalability, security, and execution quality
- Experience recruiting and scaling engineering organizations
- Ability to work effectively in founder-led or entrepreneurial environments
- Hands-on technical credibility with the ability to influence architecture and engineering direction
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in GovTech, public safety technology, emergency management software, geospatial/GIS platforms, or mission-critical software environments
- Experience with secure or regulated SaaS environments
- Exposure to FedRAMP, SOC 2, CJIS, HIPAA, NIST, Azure Government, or similar compliance environments
- Experience with real-time operational software systems and high-availability platforms
- Background in cloud security, incident response, monitoring, and disaster recovery
- Experience supporting AI-enabled workflows, automation, or operational intelligence platforms
- Experience transitioning contractor-heavy development into internal engineering teams
- Experience working with strong existing technical leaders or founding engineering teams
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a highly credible engineering executive who combines strategic leadership with hands-on technical depth.
This person should be comfortable operating in ambiguity, moving quickly, building teams, improving process discipline, and making difficult architectural and operational decisions in a high-growth environment.
The right candidate will be:
- Strategic, but not detached
- Hands-on, but not a bottleneck
- Process-oriented, but not bureaucratic
- Comfortable operating in founder-led environments
- Experienced scaling engineering teams and enterprise SaaS platforms
- Strong in cloud architecture, security, scalability, and delivery operations
- Capable of building trust with strong existing technical leaders
- Comfortable with an intense, high-urgency growth phase over the next 12–18 months
