Southern Logistics is looking for a Freight Broker to keep freight moving. Freight Brokers at Southern Logistics are responsible for securing reliable carrier capacity to cover customer shipments quickly and efficiently.
Success in this role means consistently finding the right truck, at the right time, and ensuring the load delivers without disruption. This is a fast-paced, execution-focused position where strong carrier relationships, urgency, and follow-through directly impact service quality and operational performance.
What You’ll Do
- Source and secure trucks to cover available freight across multiple lanes and markets
- Build and maintain relationships with carriers to ensure consistent, reliable capacity
- Negotiate rates with carriers to align with internal targets and load requirements
- Post loads and proactively reach out to carriers using DAT and Truckstop
- Coordinate load details from dispatch to delivery, ensuring on-time performance
- Communicate with carriers throughout the shipment lifecycle to prevent and resolve issues
- Track market conditions and carrier availability to improve coverage speed and effectiveness
- Maintain accurate load updates, carrier information, and documentation in Aljex
- Quickly resolve service issues to protect delivery timelines and customer commitments
What You Need to Succeed
- 2+ years of freight brokerage, dispatch, or carrier sales experience preferred
- Strong understanding of truckload markets and carrier behavior
- Proven ability to source trucks and cover loads in a fast-paced environment
- Effective negotiation skills with carriers
- High sense of urgency and ability to manage multiple loads at once
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Experience using DAT and/or Truckstop
- Experience with Aljex or similar TMS platforms is a plus
