Compensation
Entry-Level Mover
- $18 per hour plus tips
- Paid training provided
Experienced Mover
- $19-$25 per hour plus tips after successful completion of the trial period, based on experience and skill
- Opportunity to advance to Crew Lead
Overtime is paid in accordance with New York law. Tips are optional and are not guaranteed.

Box and Roll Moving is a family-run moving company serving the Hudson Valley and surrounding regions. We provide residential and commercial moving, packing services, and specialty-item handling.

Position Overview
Movers are responsible for safely packing, protecting, loading, transporting, and unloading customers’ belongings. This is a physically demanding, customer-facing position that requires teamwork, careful handling, and consistent compliance with company procedures.
Applicants will be placed in the entry-level or experienced pay track based on their verified professional moving experience and demonstrated skills.
Responsibilities
- Load, transport, and unload household furniture, boxes, and specialty items
- Properly pad, wrap, and protect furniture and property
- Use moving blankets, dollies, straps, ramps, and other equipment correctly
- Disassemble and reassemble furniture when required
- Maneuver furniture safely through stairs, hallways, doorways, and other restricted spaces
- Keep trucks, equipment, and work areas clean and organized
- Communicate professionally with customers, crew members, and office staff
- Follow job instructions, schedules, and inventory information
- Complete required paperwork and documentation, including bills of lading, time records, photographs, and job notes
- Use the company app to document moves and payments
- Follow company, New York State, and applicable DOT safety requirements
- Safely operate a non-CDL 16–18-foot box truck when assigned and authorized
- Assist other crew members and contribute to an efficient, professional move
- Experienced movers: train crew members according to company standards
Physical Requirements
Applicants must be able to:
- Safely and repeatedly lift, carry, push, and maneuver items weighing up to 75 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Move heavier items using team-lifting techniques and appropriate equipment
- Perform physical work throughout shifts that commonly last 6–10 hours
- Work in residential buildings, stairways, outdoor conditions, and other varied job-site environments

- Willingness to follow instructions and company procedures
- Available for last minute jobs, weekends, early starts, late finishes, and longer shifts
- Reliable access to a working cell phone and email
- Willingness and ability to use company systems for scheduling, job information, and communication
- Ability to verify authorization to work in the United States through the Form I-9 process
- Willingness to undergo a background check as part of the hiring process
- Active bank account for payroll direct deposit
Entry-Level Applicants
No prior professional moving experience is required.
Paid training will cover proper furniture protection, equipment use, loading and unloading techniques, customer-service expectations, job-site safety, and company procedures.
Previous experience in moving, delivery, warehousing, fitness, construction, landscaping, or other physical work is helpful but not required.
Entry-level applicants must be willing to learn, accept direction, and consistently follow established procedures.
Experienced Applicants
To qualify for the experienced-mover pay track, applicants must have:
- At least two years of paid household-goods moving experience with a professional moving company
- Experience performing residential moves
- Demonstrated knowledge of proper padding, wrapping, loading, unloading, and furniture handling
- Experience driving and parking a 16–20-foot box truck in residential and highway settings
- A valid driver’s license and driving record that meets the company’s insurance requirements
- Ability to consent to a motor vehicle record check
- Ability to pass a New York State DOT physical when required for assigned driving duties
General labor, warehouse, delivery, landscaping, or construction experience alone does not qualify an applicant for the experienced-mover pay track.
Training for experienced movers assumes prior knowledge of professional household-goods moving techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience handling pianos, antiques, oversized furniture, or other specialty items
- Experience coordinating or assisting a moving crew
- Leadership experience or interest in advancing to Crew Lead
- Availability for occasional short-notice work during peak season
Schedule
This is an hourly position. Shifts commonly last between 6 and 10 hours, depending on job volume, travel requirements, and the scope of each move.
Additional hours are often available during peak moving season.
