Full Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Independent Living Specialist - Group Facilitator

LOCATION: Scranton, PA

COMPANY PROFILE: MyCIL is a 501(c) 3, non-profit organization that provides services to people with disabilities who want to live independently in their own homes and communities. The Transitional Skills Center is designed for young adults with disabilities (ages of 14 – 21), who might be eligible for post-secondary education, vocational training or employment opportunities.

THE ROLE DEFINED: Reporting to the Director of the Transitional Skills Center, the Independent Living Specialist - Group Facilitator is responsible for providing program delivery to new and existing participants in the Transitional Skills Program. The Independent Living Specialist - Group Facilitator will conduct and implement programming for the participants as the program grows.

Estimated Percent of Time: 75%

Coordinate and oversee Transitional Skills Programs for qualified participants. This includes:

Instruction and training in both group and individual settings.
Skills training programs include: social skills, time management, organizational skills, independent living skills, vocational skill, job exploration and interviewing skills.
Monitors students during program.
Oversees a group of students participating in community activities. This includes: assisting with van transportation (i.e. driving the van) and transportation support (i.e. monitoring students during transport).

Estimated Percent of Time: 20%

Other facility-related, program development, participant-oriented duties.

Estimated Percent of Time: 5%

Communicate with families and schools, when appropriate, as to how to continue to assist the program participants with newly developed skills and techniques.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

An Associates or Bachelor Degree with a concentration in Special Education, General Education, School Counseling or Human Services.
Work experience in a non-profit, educational or social service environment; working with young adults with physical and/or cognitive disabilities.
Understanding of group dynamics, as well as facilitating group sessions.

DESIRED PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

Ability to work in a team-oriented environment, as well as independently.
Must have a valid PA Driver’s License and be able and willing to drive the community experience van.
Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
Excellent communication skills both oral and written.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Alternate sitting or standing at will (50% of time). Either sitting or standing required (50% of time). Duties require exerting up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally (10-33% of time) and/or a minute amount of force frequently to lift or carry.
May involve bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting on occasion.
Works in a well-lit office area.
