Full Job Description

Position Summary:

The Assistant Site Director supports the Site Director in overseeing the daily operations and management of the before and after school program. This role requires a creative, program-driven, and structured individual who can help design, implement, and support engaging activities while maintaining consistency and organization. The Assistant Site Director works to support continuous improvement by defining goals, timelines, and securing the resources necessary to achieve optimal performance. This position also assists the Site Director with all administrative functions. The Assistant Site Director will exhibit positive role model qualities in all aspects of their interactions and will continually maintain and exemplify Discover After School’s mission and core values. We are seeking a dependable and committed individual with a reliable commute, as consistency and punctuality are essential to program success.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Serve as a support to the Site Director and counselors in daily program operations
Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing structured, creative, and program-based activities aligned with program goals
Maintain accurate documentation of attendance, absences, and emergency information for each child
Maintain all other records regarding schedule changes, behavior, and incident reports
Effectively supervise and evaluate the job performance of counselors
Encourage open communication regarding concerns or issues with children, parents, or co-workers
Present positive role modeling through all interactions with program participants
Support a safe, engaging, and well-structured environment at all times

Required Qualifications:

Must complete the 40-hour Introductory Child Care Training approved by the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) prior to start date (Training is free and completed online at your own pace) (Candidates who already possess these certifications are strongly preferred) https://www.myflfamilies.com/services/child-family/child-care/child-care-facility-school-age-children
Must also complete one of the following:
Part II “Special Needs Appropriate Practices” or at least 8 hours of training in serving children with disabilities
10-hour “School-Age Appropriate Practices” module
5-hour “Understanding Developmentally Appropriate Practices” and 5-hour “School-Age Appropriate Practices” courses
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
Satisfactory Criminal Background Screening
Satisfactory Drug Screening

Experience:

3–6 months experience in a supervisory position
Experience with children: 1–2 years (preferred)

Skills and Attributes:

Creative, program-focused mindset with the ability to plan and execute engaging activities
Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to maintain structure in a fast-paced environment
Dependable, committed, and punctual with a reliable commute
Strong verbal, listening, and written communication skills in English (required)
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
Willingness to learn and grow professionally
Ability to communicate effectively with both children and administration
Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills

Expectations:

Wear appropriate staff uniform as assigned
Report to all scheduled shifts on time
Attend all meetings pertinent to this position
Maintain and support all procedures that ensure the safety of children, parents, and staff
Oversee and participate in the cleaning and maintaining of facilities, equipment, and all areas used
Take care of all supplies, equipment, and materials; be respectful of school property; ensure all school rules are followed

Job Type: Part-time

Compensation: $16 per hour. Paid biweekly via direct deposit.

Schedule:

August 2026 - May 2027

Monday – Friday

Morning Care: 6:45 AM – 9:00 AM
After Care: 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Discover After School Seasonal Camp Opportunity Disclosure:

At Discover After School, our main employment period is from August to June, with seasonal camp opportunities available during breaks. Staffing for camps depends on student enrollment, so not all staff may work during seasonal camp breaks. We conduct a survey at the end of each season to determine interest in working seasonal camps. Managers select top counselors based on work ethic and reliability, emphasizing attendance and punctuality due to the full-day commitment camps require. Additionally, employees are surveyed at the end of the school year to confirm return for the following school year. Returning employees are guaranteed a position with a positive recommendation from their manager.
