<Job Summary>
MUST HAVE DEMONSTRATED EXPERIENCE PREPARING STATUTORY ACCOUNTING STATEMENTS WITHIN AN INSURANCE COMPANY, PREFERRABLY IN THE PROPERTY & CASUALTY SECTOR. Experience with Rick Retention Groups, Offshore Reinsurance and other insurance industry entities is a plus.

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Statutory Accounting Reporting Leader to head our financial reporting efforts in compliance with regulatory standards and accounting principles. This pivotal role involves overseeing the preparation and accuracy of statutory financial statements, ensuring adherence to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), and managing complex accounting processes. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting expertise, excellent leadership skills, and a passion for maintaining transparency and integrity in financial reporting. <Duties>

Lead the preparation, review, and submission of statutory financial statements in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements and accounting standards for multiple regulated entities, including multiple insurance carriers, and rick retention groups.
Oversee the reconciliation of general ledger accounts, balance sheets, and bank statements to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Liaise with IT systems and financial departments to insure accuracy, timeliness and transparent reporting of policy data.
Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes with precision, including journal entries, account analysis, and financial report writing.
Ensure compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls, securities law regulations, and other relevant legal frameworks affecting financial reporting.
Supervise the development of technical accounting policies related to non-profit accounting, governmental accounting, LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit), and other specialized areas.
Mentor and develop a team of accountants by providing guidance on complex accounting issues such as Wills, trusts & estate law, GAAP interpretations, and financial concepts.
Collaborate with internal auditors during audits to facilitate smooth review processes; support external audits related to regulatory reporting.
Utilize advanced accounting software such as Sage, Xero, or similar platforms for efficient financial management and reporting.
Conduct detailed account reconciliation procedures including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger reconciliation, cash flow analysis, and bank reconciliations.
Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities to inform strategic decision-making across departments.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of securities law changes, tax regulations, and governmental accounting standards impacting statutory reporting requirements.

<Qualifications>

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
Extensive experience in property and casualty insurance accounting with a strong focus on financial statement preparation and regulatory reporting.
Proven expertise in technical accounting areas such as GAAP, STAT and SOX compliance,.
Demonstrated leadership skills with experience mentoring teams of accountants or finance professionals.
Proficiency in accounting software including Sage, Xero or similar systems; strong understanding of double entry bookkeeping principles.
In-depth knowledge of account reconciliation processes including balance sheet reconciliation and bank reconciliations.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately; experience with financial report writing is essential.
Excellent understanding of financial concepts such as debits & credits, accrual accounting, cash flow analysis, budgeting and forecasting.
Familiarity with auditing procedures and internal controls under SOX regulations; ability to support external audit activities effectively.
Knowledge of private equity finance or public accounting environments is a plus; familiarity with Wills & estate law is advantageous but not required.
