Full Job Description

Job Summary

Tennessee Valley Eye Center is seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) to provide safe, effective nursing care during the intraoperative phase of surgical procedures. The OR RN serves as the circulating nurse and patient advocate, supports physicians and anesthesia providers, and helps ensure each operating room case runs efficiently, safely, and in accordance with facility policies and procedures.

OR RN position does not require nights, weekends, call or Holidays. Four 10-hour shifts per week (6:30 am - 5 pm).

Responsibilities

Provide nursing care to patients during the intraoperative phase and serve as the patient’s advocate in the operating room.
Prepare the operating room for scheduled procedures, including equipment, supplies, instruments, and patient-specific needs.
Coordinate and oversee assigned operating room cases as the circulating nurse.
Assist physicians and anesthesia personnel by anticipating needs and supporting safe, efficient patient care.
Confirm patient identity, procedure, and operative site in accordance with facility policy.
Assist with safe patient positioning, preparation of the operative site, and maintenance of patient comfort, privacy, and dignity.
Monitor compliance with aseptic technique and safety standards throughout procedures.
Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, physicians, anesthesia providers, and coworkers.
Document patient care accurately and communicate patient status to the appropriate care team members.
Support quality management, risk management, patient safety initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.
Assist with supply, medication, and equipment inventories to maintain appropriate availability and cost-effective use.
Participate in orientation, training, continuing education, staff development, meetings, and committees as required.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Tennessee required.
Operating room experience required.
Strong understanding of operating room procedures, aseptic technique, and patient safety standards.
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in written and spoken American English.
Ability to respond promptly and calmly to urgent needs, emergencies, and changing patient or physician priorities.
Strong organizational, critical-thinking, documentation, and teamwork skills.
