Full Job Description

Job Summary

The Education Specialist will work closely with the Education Coordinator, Education Assistants and teachers and other community partners to integrate Sails to Success Programming into the Hamilton/SOTA I BGC afterschool program. This position will be responsible for growing and maintaining critical relationships with the Hamilton and SOTA I staff, recruiting and retaining participants, program development, grant reporting, and supervision of the education coordinator and assistants. A successful candidate will have a strong teaching skills, an outgoing personality, be able to connect with youth, and have strong communication and organizational skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Collaborate with Hamilton and SOTA I faculty as needed to create fun and engaging educational programs that align with Sails to Success Programming.

· Have regular communication with school faculty and Club academic staff to provide status updates of members and overall program implementation.

· Motivate and retain members to participate in after school education programming.

· Offer academic support, advisement, and mentoring to all members.

· Ensure quality improvement by monitoring and evaluating program achievement against targeted goals, recommending modifications that respond to member needs and interests.

· Ensure accurate reporting for grant purposes.

· Connect parents and members with appropriate school and community resources.

· Encourage parent/school/community involvement.

· Supervise and train educational assistants to facilitate implementation of educational programming.

· Implementing goals, objectives, policies, procedures and standards in all programming.

· Maintain accurate records, attendance, and progress to be readily shared.

· Engage school faculty and integrate into school culture by building relationships and participating in events and professional development opportunities.

· Maintain a positive and safe learning environment for members.

· Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s of Education is required.

2-3 years of experience working with youth in a learning environment desired.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time, often for the majority of a work shift (up to 10 hours).
Ability to move quickly and efficiently in both open and restricted or confined spaces.
Frequent bending, reaching, stooping, and crouching may be required.
Must be able to maintain balance and physical stability while moving in tight or crowded environments.
Visual and auditory ability to observe members’ behavior, monitor group dynamics, and respond to potential safety concerns or behavioral issues in real time.
Occasional lifting and carrying of materials or equipment up to 50 lbs.
Fine motor skills and manual dexterity sufficient for operating tools, equipment, or controls as needed.
Ability to adapt to physical and sensory demands in a fast-paced, high-mobility environment involving young children.
