Front Desk Receptionist

Position Summary

Are you passionate about history, nature, and creating memorable visitor experiences? We are seeking an energetic, organized, and adaptable Front Desk Receptionist to serve as the welcoming face of our museum. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys interacting with people of all ages, and can confidently manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining exceptional customer service.

The Front Desk Receptionist is responsible for greeting visitors, processing admissions and memberships, answering questions, coordinating communications, and providing administrative support to ensure smooth daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

Welcome guests with a warm, friendly, and professional demeanor.
Process admissions, memberships, retail purchases, and donations using the museum's point-of-sale system.
Answer and direct phone calls, emails, and visitor inquiries accurately and efficiently.
Provide information about museum exhibits, programs, special events, and community activities.
Coordinate group tour arrivals and assist with visitor check-in procedures.
Maintain an organized and inviting reception area.
Handle cash, credit card transactions, and daily balancing procedures with accuracy.
Assist with gift shop sales, merchandise displays, and inventory as needed.
Schedule reservations and support administrative tasks including filing, data entry, and document preparation.
Communicate effectively with museum staff, volunteers, and visitors to ensure a positive guest experience.
Monitor visitor flow and respond calmly and professionally to changing priorities throughout the day.
Assist with opening and closing procedures and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education is a plus.
Previous experience in customer service, reception, hospitality, retail, or a similar public-facing role preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
Comfortable using computers, point-of-sale systems, Microsoft Office, and basic office equipment.
Ability to remain composed and courteous during busy periods while managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
Interest in history, nature, museums, education, or community engagement is highly desirable.

Preferred Skills

Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities with minimal supervision.
Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and special events as needed.
Ability to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
