The Rural Health Pathways Coordinator 1 provides dedicated outreach, engagement services, and academic pathway support to rural pre-college students navigating healthcare academic tracks to facilitate college entry. Based in the Ontario, OR region and serving Eastern Oregon University’s designated rural counties (Harney, Grant, Malheur, and Baker), this position collaborates closely with regional K-12 school districts to cultivate an academic and experiential pipeline for future healthcare professionals.
This role drives student recruitment by conducting localized school visits, managing dual-credit registration workflows, and organizing hands-on, large-scale healthcare preview events. By guiding students through foundational academic requirements and experiential opportunities, the Coordinator bridges the critical transition from high school into EOU’s healthcare degree programs.
Taking a proactive, student-centered approach to community engagement, the Coordinator builds strong relationships with regional school districts, counselors, and educators. Through tailored outreach and direct student support, the Coordinator ensures that pre-college initiatives successfully inspire and prepare geographically isolated students for healthcare careers.
The Rural Health Pathways Coordinator is essential to advancing Eastern Oregon University’s commitment to expanding educational access and supporting rural healthcare workforce development. By creating accessible pathways for local youth and strengthening university-school connections across the region, the Coordinator directly contributes to student enrollment, higher education access, and long-term regional health and vitality.
This is a full-time, limited-duration position that is contingent upon continued grant funding.
Responsibilities
- Outreach & Recruitment: Deliver classroom presentations, career advocacy, and recruitment across rural K-12 districts (grades 5–12).
- Event Management: Plan and execute localized school visits and large-scale EOU Health Career Preview Days featuring hands-on lab experiences.
- Dual Credit & Academic Support: Streamline registration and track student progress in core health coursework (Math, Biology, Chemistry, Medical Terminology, and Health & Human Performance).
- Pathway Alignment: Assist schools with mapping health curricula to EOU degree requirements and support EOU Early College Initiative summer academies.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with EOU Admissions, academic advisors, and local Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) to optimize student transition pipelines.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Health Sciences, Communications, Public Health, Biology, or a related field
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience within student recruitment, admissions, academic advising, or health program coordination at either the K-12 or postsecondary level
- Minimum of two (2) years of expertise in event planning, public speaking, program outreach development, and academic curriculum mapping. Strong foundational knowledge of standard health science pipeline structures.
- Must satisfactorily complete EOU criminal and credential background check. Having a criminal history is not an automatic bar to employment.

Preferred Qualifications
Education
- Master’s degree in Education, Health Sciences, Communications, Public Health, Biology, or a related field
Experience
- Two (2) years of experience coordinating dual-enrollment/dual-credit processing or organizing pipeline camps/summer institutes in a higher education setting.
