Position Summary
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for a full-time Patrol Deputy. Fayette County covers approximately 960 square miles, and patrol shifts generally consist of three to four patrol deputies and a sergeant.
The selected applicant will perform law enforcement and public-safety duties throughout Fayette County. This position requires sound judgment, integrity, effective communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a variety of situations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Patrol assigned areas to deter and detect criminal activity.
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
- Investigate criminal offenses, traffic crashes, disturbances, and other reported incidents.
- Enforce federal and state laws, traffic laws, and applicable county regulations.
- Conduct traffic stops and take appropriate enforcement action.
- Make lawful arrests and transport prisoners when required.
- Prepare accurate and complete offense reports, arrest reports, affidavits, and other official documentation.
- Collect, preserve, and properly document evidence.
- Interview complainants, victims, witnesses, and suspects.
- Serve warrants, protective orders, civil process, and other legal documents as assigned.
- Testify in court and before a grand jury when required.
- Assist other law enforcement agencies, fire departments, emergency medical services, and members of the public.
- Maintain assigned vehicles, weapons, equipment, and uniforms.
- Perform other law enforcement duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must:
- Possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Possess a valid Texas Class C driver’s license.
- Hold a current Basic Peace Officer License issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
- Be able to maintain all continuing-education and licensing requirements established by TCOLE.
- Successfully complete and pass the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Field Training Program.
- Be able to work 12-hour shifts, weekends, holidays, nights, and during emergency conditions.
- Demonstrate good moral character, sound judgment, and the ability to communicate effectively.
- Be able to perform the essential duties of a patrol deputy safely and effectively.
Work Schedule
- 12-hour shifts
- Every other weekend off
- Shift assignment based on the operational needs of the Sheriff’s Office

Deputies are assigned agency vehicles based on position and operational needs. The agency fleet currently includes Ford Explorers, Dodge Chargers, Chevrolet Tahoes, and pickup trucks.
