Position Summary:
The Director of Marketing, Training and Communications is a leadership role responsible for strengthening San Diego PACE’s brand, expanding community awareness, and ensuring that every audience -- from prospective participants and community partners to current staff -- understands and connects with our mission.
This position leads external marketing and communications efforts to strengthen San Diego PACE’s visibility, reputation, and recognition across the communities we serve, while also shaping how we communicate internally with our team. The Director also provides strategic oversight to the corporate training department, ensuring that corporate training and education offerings are clear and relevant with an emphasis on message comprehension and human connection. Day-to-day training administration is managed by a highly capable Training Manager.
The ideal candidate is a strategic marketer and communicator who understands healthcare audiences, knows how to build a brand with limited resources, and brings the same creative intentionality to an all-staff memo as they do to a community outreach campaign.
What Success Looks Like
In the first year, a successful Director of Marketing, Training and Communications will have established a clear brand voice and strong marketing presence; increased awareness of San Diego PACE across key audiences and communities; built trusted relationships across departments and sites; and elevated the quality and consistency of how we communicate with both the communities we serve and the staff who serve them. They will have made the Training department stronger — not by overmanaging it, but by integrating it into a broader culture of clear, human-centered communication.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Marketing, Brand & Community Awareness
- Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy that strengthens brand recognition, expands community awareness, and supports organizational goals across existing and future PACE sites.
- Build and maintain brand standards, messaging frameworks, and visual identity guidelines across all channels and materials.
- Oversee the creation of marketing collateral including brochures, digital content, social media, signage, and community outreach materials.
- Cultivate relationships with community partners to expand awareness of San Diego PACE and reinforce its mission and value in the community.
- Manage digital presence including website content, social media strategy, and email communications.
- Track marketing and communications performance metrics and adjust strategies to strengthen visibility, engagement, and brand recognition.
Communications — External
- Serve as a steward of the organization’s public reputation, ensuring consistent, mission-aligned messaging across all external touchpoints.
- Draft, edit, and oversee production of press releases, newsletters, annual reports, and community-facing publications.
- Manage media relationships and serve as a resource for public-facing communications in partnership with executive leadership.
- Support participant and family communications in coordination with clinical and operations teams.
- Ensure all marketing and outreach materials meet CMS compliance standards, including required disclosures, accessibility requirements, and guidelines governing communications with Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries.
Communications – Internal
- Lead the strategy for how San Diego PACE communicates with its staff — ensuring messages are timely, clear, and appropriate for diverse audiences across multiple sites and roles.
- Translate complex organizational information (policy updates, strategic initiatives, regulatory changes) into communications that staff can understand and act on.
- Develop and maintain a cadence of internal communications including all-staff announcements, leadership updates, and site-level messaging.
- Partner with HR and operations to align internal communications with culture, engagement, and retention goals.
Training Department Oversight
- Champion a communications-forward approach to training — one that prioritizes clarity, accessibility, and connection over compliance-only delivery.
- Integrate training communications into broader internal communications strategy so staff experience is consistent, reinforcing messaging.
- Provide leadership and direction to the Training Manager and Training department, in concert with the IT, supporting their goals and removing obstacles to success.
- Collaborate with the Training Manager to ensure training materials reflect brand standards and are written in language appropriate for all staff literacy levels.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities

Job Requirements:
Experience Required (Minimum level of experience):
- 2 years of progressive experience in marketing, communications, or combined role.
- Proven track record developing and executing marketing strategies, including brand management, digital marketing, and community outreach.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives and deadlines simultaneously.
- Proficiency with digital marketing tools, social media platforms, and content management systems.
- Experience leading or supervising a team.
Experience Preferred:
- 3-5 years of progressive experience in marketing, communications, or combined role.
- Experience in healthcare, senior care, home health, or a related field, with knowledge of PACE, managed care, or Medicaid/Medicare populations.
- Familiarity with marketing to underserved or diverse communities.
- Experience supporting organizational growth, new site launches, or market expansion through strategic marketing, communications, and community awareness efforts.
- Background in internal communications, employee engagement, or organizational development.
Education Required (Minimum level of education):
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field; or equivalent relevant experience
Certifications/Licenses Preferred:
- Agile, Lean Six Sigma or other project management related certification
Verbal and Written Skills Required to perform the Job:
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt tone and content for varied audiences — from community members to clinical staff to board members
Technical Knowledge and Skills Required to Perform the Job:
- Self-starter and results-oriented
- Superior analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience developing financial models in Excel and facilitating business discussions
- Expert user of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) to prepare all documents, presentations, graphs, briefings, and worksheets
- Excellent business sense and ability to understand and resolve complex business issues
- Experience presenting to executive audiences
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Superb relationship building skills
- Ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- Office work
- Periodic travel between sites and to community events
- Occasional evening or weekend availability may be required for community outreach activities
- On-site position with prolonged periods of sitting, and constant walking and standing
