At Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center (AVRMC), we understand that every member of the surgical team contributes to positive patient outcomes. We are seeking a skilled, dependable, and detail-oriented OR Technician to join our Surgical Services team in La Junta.

As an OR Technician, you will assist surgeons during operative and invasive procedures while ensuring the operating room is properly prepared, supplied, and maintained. This position is responsible for maintaining sterile technique, preparing instruments and equipment, assisting with surgical procedures, and supporting efficient operating room operations.
This is a Full-Time position within our Surgical Services Department.
Surgical Procedure Support
- Assist surgeons during operative and invasive procedures
- Prepare operating rooms with all anticipated instruments, supplies, sutures, and equipment for scheduled procedures
- Assist with positioning, prepping, and draping patients for surgical procedures
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon throughout the intraoperative phase
- Maintain an organized and sterile instrument table throughout procedures
- Provide technical and manual support during procedures under the direction of the Charge Nurse or Nursing Director
- Interact professionally with patients and family members
- Provide explanations and reassurance to patients as appropriate
- Adapt care and procedures to meet the needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
- Protect patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times
- Maintain a safe environment for patients, coworkers, and self in accordance with hospital policies
- Carry out medical and surgical asepsis during all treatments and procedures
- Follow aseptic technique when opening sterile supplies and setting up procedures
- Accurately complete operating room counts of instruments, sponges, and needles
- Report and address count discrepancies immediately according to department policy
- Demonstrate competency in specimen handling and ensure accurate processing at all times
- Clean, disinfect, and process instruments and equipment following procedures
- Follow established steam and chemical sterilization procedures and monitoring requirements
- Ensure proper care, handling, and maintenance of surgical instruments and equipment
- Inspect equipment and instruments prior to procedures to verify proper operation
- Clean and prepare procedure rooms between cases and after the final daily procedure
- Restock supplies and organize operating rooms for efficient turnover
- Collaborate with nursing staff to maintain adequate inventory levels of equipment and supplies
- Obtain supplies and maintain inventory according to Kanban procedures
- Monitor and maintain appropriate PAR levels of surgical instruments and supplies
- Consult with other staff members regarding unfamiliar equipment or procedures
- Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and surgical team members to support patient care
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers and providers
- Complete required documentation accurately and within established timeframes
- Demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making within the OR Technician scope of practice
- Make decisions based on knowledge of assigned procedures, instruments, and surgical trays
- Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times
- Adhere to hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and department standards
- Participate in departmental meetings, in-services, and educational opportunities
- Support performance improvement and continuous quality improvement initiatives
- Represent AVRMC in a positive and professional manner within the facility and community
- Communicate and support the mission, vision, and values of the organization
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Current Operating Room Technician Certification
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to maintain strict sterile technique and infection prevention standards
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Previous Operating Room Technician experience
- Experience in a hospital surgical services department
- Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and procedures
- Experience with sterilization and instrument processing
- Additional certifications related to surgical services
Compensation
Starting pay is based on experience, qualifications, and certification status. The posted wage reflects candidates who meet all required certification requirements. Compensation may vary based on experience, credentials, and demonstrated surgical services expertise.
