We are seeking a dependable, compassionate, and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our Rocky Ford Clinic team. Position Summary
As a Medical Assistant, you will provide both clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers and patients. Responsibilities include assisting with patient care, performing clinical procedures, maintaining medical records, scheduling appointments, supporting laboratory functions, and promoting an outstanding patient experience.
This is a Full-Time position within our Rocky Ford Clinic.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Clinical Support
• Greet and prepare patients for examinations and treatments
- Obtain and document patient histories and chief complaints
- Measure and record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, height, and weight
- Assist providers during examinations, treatments, and minor procedures
- Prepare patients for specialty examinations and diagnostic testing
- Educate patients regarding medications, treatments, procedures, and physician instructions
- Provide support to patients of all ages, including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations
- Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy at all times
Clinical Procedures
• Perform clinical procedures within Medical Assistant scope of practice
- Administer medications as directed and authorized
- Assist with minor surgical procedures and sterile field preparation
- Remove sutures and staples as directed
- Apply dressings and bandages as appropriate
- Maintain aseptic and infection prevention practices
- Assist with therapeutic modalities and patient care interventions
- Perform electrocardiogram (ECG) testing as required
Laboratory Support
• Perform CLIA-waived laboratory testing according to established procedures
- Collect, process, and prepare specimens including blood, urine, throat cultures, and other samples
- Perform capillary, dermal, and venipuncture procedures within scope of practice
- Ensure laboratory quality control standards are followed
- Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies
- Accurately document laboratory results and testing activities
Administrative Responsibilities
• Schedule patient appointments and manage clinic calendars
- Answer telephones and assist patients, visitors, and community members
- Maintain and update electronic medical records
- Process medical documentation accurately and timely
- Manage patient charts in accordance with HIPAA requirements
- Assist with insurance verification and documentation
- Support coding and billing processes as appropriate
- Manage office supplies and equipment inventory
Health Information & Compliance
- Protect and maintain confidential patient information
- Follow HIPAA, OSHA, and clinic regulatory requirements
- Maintain accurate patient records according to organizational policies
- Process requests for protected health information according to applicable regulations
- Ensure compliance with clinic safety standards and infection prevention practices
Professionalism & Teamwork
- Establish positive relationships with patients, providers, and coworkers
- Demonstrate professional communication and customer service skills
- Participate in departmental meetings, training programs, and educational opportunities
- Support organizational quality improvement initiatives
- Promote AVRMC's mission, vision, and values
- Represent the clinic and organization in a positive and professional manner
Qualifications
Required
• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment
Preferred
• Medical Assistant Certification
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
- Bachelor's Degree
- Experience in a clinic or physician practice setting
- Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems
- Experience with laboratory specimen collection and processing
- Phlebotomy skills and experience performing venipuncture and specimen collection
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
