Compass Dermatopathology is seeking an experienced, compassionate, and highly motivated Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join our growing dermatology team. This position supports our board-certified dermatologists and Mohs surgeons in delivering exceptional patient care in a fast-paced, patient-focused clinical environment.
Previous dermatology experience is required. Candidates must be comfortable assisting with medical dermatology, surgical dermatology, and Mohs procedures while providing outstanding patient care and maintaining clinical excellence.

Essential Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments.
- Accurately obtain and document medical histories, medications, allergies, and chief complaints in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Serve as a medical scribe during patient visits and accurately document provider findings, treatment plans, and procedures.
- Assist physicians with dermatologic procedures, biopsies, excisions, cryotherapy, Mohs surgery, cosmetic procedures, and wound care.
- Prepare, label, document, and track pathology specimens.
- Provide patient education and pre- and post-procedure instructions.
- Administer medications and injections as permitted under California law and provider direction.
- Prepare and maintain exam and procedure rooms, ensuring appropriate supplies and equipment are available.
- Clean, sterilize, and process medical instruments following OSHA, CDC, and infection control guidelines.
- Review laboratory and pathology results for provider review when appropriate.
- Verify prior authorizations and assist with coordinating patient care.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, leadership, and fellow clinical staff to provide outstanding patient care.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support clinical operations.
QualificationsRequired
- Current Medical Assistant certification from an accredited program.
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent dermatology medical assistant experience required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced clinical setting.
- Professional, dependable, and patient-centered approach to care.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
Preferred
- Experience assisting with Mohs surgery.
- Experience with cosmetic dermatology procedures.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements.
- Ability to safely assist patients during examinations and procedures.
