Full Job Description

Job Summary

We're looking for our next HR Director — someone stepping into a strong HR team. This is not a big-corporate, policy-and-compliance-police kind of HR job. It's a seat at the leadership table for someone who can translate, influence, and collaborate with sharp, fast-moving executive thinking successfully across multiple organizations, styles, and needs.

Key Responsibilities

Sit in business and leadership conversations bringing the people lens, keeping culture and organizational needs at the forefront.
Partner with senior leaders on people decisions including communication, planning, and creative problem solving.
Diagnose what's really going on with a performance issue, a conflict, or team friction — skill gap, dynamic, or readiness — before recommending a fix.
Own the hard right-fit, role, and time conversations with leadership and employees.
Lead culture and employee engagement.
Build genuine trust with ownership and executive leadership.
Align HR initiatives, staffing models, and retention programs with overall company objectives.
Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal labor laws, managing employee handbooks and risk mitigation.
Oversee complex disputes, performance management, disciplinary procedures, and workplace investigations.
Design competitive pay structures, salary bands, and benefit packages alongside executive leadership.
Manage the HR budget, direct daily operations, and mentor HR staff.

What We Need From You

Meaningful experience at a senior, leadership-facing level in HR (Director scope or equivalent) — ideally somewhere fast-moving and owner- or founder-led, not a large, process-heavy corporate environment.
Real business fluency: comfort with P&L, timelines, deliverables, and operational tradeoffs, not just HR metrics. A background in project management or operations is a strong plus.
A track record of working with senior executives on people decisions — not just executing what they've already decided.
Comfort holding confidential, high-stakes information with discretion, including situations that don't fit a standard policy.
A relationship-and-judgment-first approach to HR — this role is not about building a bigger compliance or policy shop.
Must be able to commute and work in-office at our Brentwood, TN headquarters.

Core Competencies & Abilities

Exposure to unconventional or highly customized employment arrangements (flexible comp structures, contractor-to-payroll setups, and similar).
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.
A style that reads as direct and warm rather than formal and procedural.
Strong business acumen, advanced conflict resolution, deep knowledge of labor regulations.

Knowledge/Skills

5+ years in Human Resources, progressive leadership across all areas of human resources
Deep understanding of organizational development, employee engagement, and change management.
Strong knowledge of HR principles, practices, and employment laws.
Familiarity with HR software and systems (e.g., ATS, HRIS, performance management tools).
Strong analytical and problem-solving approach to HR decision-making.
Experience managing a distributed team (in-office and remote direct reports).
Ability to lead and motivate a diverse team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated ability to influence and drive change within a company.

This position will require you to primarily work from the office, but some work-from-home flexibility is included.
