Exciting News! Our Victory Learning Center Program is expanding, and new classrooms will be opening in 2026! Be a part of our growth—join our team and help us make a difference!

We are seeking a Physical Education Teacher to create a supportive environment where students of all abilities can participate in physical activities, improve motor skills, and enhance physical fitness.

Our Victory Learning Center Programs offers specialized educational services for students who are diagnosed with Autism or a Cognitive Disability paired with a mental health diagnosis. There are two separate sites conveniently located in Lackawanna, NY, with a third site opening in September 2026! Our schools service students ages 5-21, who are residentially placed or are referred through their local school district's Committee on Special Education.

Job Summary:
Victory Learning Center is seeking a Physical Education Teacher to work with students aged 5 to 21, primarily diagnosed on the Autism spectrum, with mental health and/or behavioral concerns, and developmental or intellectual disabilities. The Physical Education Teacher plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students in a variety of educational settings. The person in this position is responsible for creating a supportive environment where students of all abilities can participate in physical activities, improve motor skills, and enhance physical fitness.

Essential Job Duties:

Provides an educational climate that encompasses success, independence, a productive atmosphere, and provides students with encouragement, safety and stimulation.
Completes weekly lesson plans based on a developmentally appropriate curriculum which follows the New York State Educational Department Learning Standards.
Prepares lessons and other instructional materials to meet individual needs of the students.
Demonstrate adequate knowledge of: subject matter- Physical Education, ability to think critically, and individualize instruction.
Promote fitness, coordination, balance, strength, and social interaction through adaptive activities.
Implement Classroom Behavior Management Plan (Tier 1) and any student specific Tier 2 or Tier 3 Interventions.
Act as a team leader of classroom staff including assistants, therapists and social workers.
Communicate effectively with parents (through notebooks, phone calls, conferences, district meetings, communication app, etc.)
Complete quarterly progress reports on all students that are distributed to parents and the school districts.
Maintain student confidentiality within HIPPA/FERPA and agency guidelines.
Any other duties assigned by supervisor

Skills:

Requires the ability to utilize computer systems and software necessary to perform position functions.
Requires effective oral/written communication and interpersonal skills for interactions with various individuals both internal and external to the program. Must be able to deal tactfully and effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
Ability to work well in a team environment.
Significant problem solving and diagnostic skills with the ability to quickly analyze situations and adopt an effective course of action.
Ability to handle stressful and sensitive situations in a professional manner.

Minimum Education Required:
Physical Education & Health Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred

Minimum Experience Required:
Minimum Experience: 1-2 years of experience is required

1-2 years of working with individuals with Autism, Intellectual Disability and/or mental health involvement is preferred

License/Registration/ Certifications Required:

Initial NYS Teaching Certification in Physical Education

Training Requirements:

Continuing education as per NYS Office of Profession guidelines

Physical Requirements:
The overall nature of the position is sedentary requiring little physical effort with occasional light physical exertion required. There is little, if any, exposure to environmental conditions.

The constant physical demand of the position is sitting.
The frequent physical demands of the position are standing, walking, climbing, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and eye/hand/foot coordination.
The occasional physical demands of the position are lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling.
