About the Role: The Utility Project Manager is responsible for managing multiple utility construction projects while leading field personnel, coordinating with customers, and ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.This position is a key leadership role within our organization and offers the opportunity to help shape the future of Preferred Electric.

- Street Lighting Construction
- Directional Boring
- Pole Replacements
- Storm Restoration
- Utility Relocations
- Joint Utility (NJUNS) Programs
- Transmission Support
- Municipal Utility Construction
- Emergency Response
Responsibilities: As a Utility Project Manager, you will:
- Manage multiple utility construction projects from award through closeout.
- Lead and mentor General Foremen, Foremen, and field personnel.
- Build strong relationships with utility customers, municipalities, engineers, and general contractors.
- Develop project schedules, staffing plans, and equipment plans.
- Monitor project budgets, forecasts, and profitability.
- Review job cost reports and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Manage subcontractors and vendors.
- Coordinate material procurement and logistics.
- Negotiate and manage change orders.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Conduct project meetings and client progress meetings.
- Assist estimating and preconstruction teams with project planning.
- Support business development efforts by identifying additional opportunities with existing clients.
Qualifications: We're looking for someone who has:
- 10+ years of utility construction experience.
- 5+ years of Project Management experience.
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong knowledge of overhead and underground electric utility construction.
- Experience with utility owners, municipalities, or DOT-related work.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Strong financial and business acumen.
- Ability to read plans, specifications, and contracts.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred qualifications include experience with Investor Owned Utilities, Electric Cooperatives, and/or, municipal utilities.What We Offer
