Overview
The Communications & Marketing Coordinator is the primary storyteller and brand ambassador for LUM. This role transforms the impact of LUM’s programs, and fundraising campaigns into compelling digital and print content that drives donor engagement, volunteer recruitment, and community awareness. Working in close partnership with the Chief Development Officer and the Senior Development Associate, the Coordinator ensures all communications align with LUM’s mission, and brand identity.
Duties
The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
I. Communications & Marketing
A. Storytelling & content creation
- Craft authentic, mission-driven stories highlighting LUM programs, volunteer and client’s impact.
- Ensure capture photos and video at LUM events, program activities for real-time and evergreen content.
- Collaborate on the design and production of annual reports, campaign materials, program brochures, and event collateral.
- Coordinate, draft, and schedule content for eblasts (email marketing), social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.), blog posts, and print materials.
- Work with program & administrative staff to support their communication needs:
- Flyers for third-party events benefiting LUM.
- Promoting job openings.
- In-kind donation requests (Jubilee Christmas Homeless Services, etc.).
- Serve as the central point for brand consistency across all LUM departments.
- Support special reports, community letters, solicitation letters, acknowledgement letters, presentations as directed by the CDO.
B. Websites management
- Maintain and update LUM’s websites: news, event pages, donation forms, volunteer sign-ups, program descriptions.
- Create and embed online forms (e.g., event registration, volunteer interest).
- Manage web editor permissions and ensure ADA compliance/best practices.
- Monitor website analytics and recommend improvements.
- Coordinate updates with staff as programs evolve.
C. Marketing & promotion
- Collaborate with the LUM team to plan, design, draft, and distribute the LUM newsletter.
- Develop targeted email communications for donors, volunteers, churches, community partners and supporters.
- Partner with the Senior Development Associate to market fundraising events:
- Create event-specific content (landing pages, social media campaigns, email invitations, etc).
- Write and distribute press releases.
- Secure paid advertising and media partnerships when budget allows.
- Ensure consistency with LUM’s visual brand guidelines.
D. Annual communications strategy & calendar
- Build and manage a 12-month communications calendar integrating development campaigns (Hunger Hike, Turkey Trot, annual appeal), program milestones.
- Align all messaging with LUM’s brand identity, core values, and strategic priorities (as defined by CDO).
- Measure and report on engagement metrics (open rates, click-through rates, social reach) to inform strategy adjustments — performing in-depth data analysis and provide recommended improvements based on analytics.
II. Donor stewardship support
In coordination with the Senior Development Associate, support donor stewardship activities:
- Make thank-you receipt and acknowledgement letter templates to donors (especially new or recurring donors).
- Assist with post-campaign recognition mailings and materials.
- Coordinate donor recognition events (marketing and communications only — not logistics).
- Collaborate with SR DA to ensure donors receive timely, warm, and brand-consistent touchpoints.

- Passionate about serving the community.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2–4 years of professional experience in communications, content creation, or marketing (nonprofit experience strongly preferred).
- Creative, detail-oriented, organized, and dependable.
- A team player
- Demonstrated proficiency in:
- Social media management (scheduling tools like Meta Business Suite).
- WordPress or similar CMS.
- Email marketing platforms (Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or similar).
- Photo and video editing (Canva, Adobe Spark, iMovie, or similar).
- Writing for multiple audiences (donors, volunteers, program participants).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; keen eye for branding and tone.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple deadlines, and pivot quickly.
- Strong interpersonal skills; comfortable interviewing community members (with sensitivity and ethics).
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
