The Opportunity

Are you a mission-driven leader who thrives at the intersection of community engagement, volunteerism, and food access? Food Finders Food Bank is seeking an experienced and passionate Director of Fresh Market & Volunteer Engagement to lead one of our most visible and impactful programs while cultivating a volunteer experience that inspires service and deepens community connection.

As Director of Fresh Market & Volunteer Engagement, you will provide strategic leadership for the Fresh Market, oversee volunteer engagement initiatives, and drive program innovation that advances Food Finders' mission of alleviating hunger across our 16-county service area. You will provide leadership and support to a dedicated team of staff, build meaningful partnerships throughout the community, and ensure that every neighbor, volunteer, and community partner feels welcomed, valued, and connected to our mission.

This is more than an operations leadership role. It is an opportunity to create welcoming pathways for community members to engage in service, expand access to nutritious food, and help shape programs that make a lasting difference throughout north-central Indiana.

What You’ll Do

Lead a Fresh Market that Serves with Excellence

You will provide strategic and operational oversight of the Fresh Market, ensuring efficient daily operations that deliver a positive experience for neighbors and volunteers alike. Working closely with the Fresh Market team, you will oversee inventory management, food distribution processes, quality control, and workflow optimization. You will identify opportunities to improve food sourcing, increase efficiency, reduce waste, and maximize resources so that more families can access the food they need.

You will also ensure compliance with food safety standards, operational policies, and regulatory requirements while maintaining a safe, welcoming, and mission-focused environment.

Build a Thriving Volunteer Program

Volunteers are the heart of Food Finders, and you will lead efforts to recruit, engage, train, and retain a diverse and committed volunteer workforce. You will develop innovative recruitment strategies, create meaningful onboarding experiences, and ensure volunteers feel valued, prepared, and connected to the mission.

By monitoring volunteer satisfaction and identifying opportunities for improvement, you will strengthen the volunteer experience and foster lasting relationships with community members who support our work.

Develop Programs that Expand Impact

You will lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs that address food insecurity and support organizational priorities. Working collaboratively across departments, you will ensure volunteer initiatives and Fresh Market programming align with broader agency goals and community needs.

You will utilize data, feedback, and performance metrics to continuously improve programs, evaluate outcomes, and ensure compliance with funder expectations and reporting requirements. You will also support the ongoing growth and effectiveness of our Food Box Program, helping extend Food Finders' reach throughout the 16 counties we serve.

Strengthen Community Partnerships

You will serve as an ambassador for Food Finders, building relationships with community organizations, corporate partners, faith-based groups, and stakeholders who share our commitment to ending hunger.

You will coordinate community outreach initiatives, volunteer service projects, and large-scale group volunteer events that deepen engagement and expand awareness of our mission. Through these partnerships, you will help strengthen Food Finders' role as a trusted community resource and collaborative leader.

Inspire and Develop a High-Performing Team

You will provide leadership, coaching, and support to the Fresh Market team while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. You will oversee program budgets, monitor performance metrics, and help ensure organizational resources are used effectively to maximize impact.

Most importantly, you will inspire staff and volunteers alike, creating an environment where people feel connected to the mission and empowered to make a difference.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Management, Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field.
Minimum of five years of experience in volunteer management, program development, community engagement, or a related nonprofit leadership role.
Demonstrated experience supervising staff and coordinating volunteers.
Certification in Volunteer Administration (CVA) preferred but not required.
Valid driver's license required.
Food safety certification/training (provided upon hire).
An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
