Job Title: Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)
Location: LPC Surgery Center, LLC (Lafayette) & Kokomo Ambulatory Surgery Center (Kokomo)
Position Type: Full-Time
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports To: Director of Nursing (DON)
Travel Required: Regular travel between Lafayette and Kokomo surgery centers.
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) assists the Director of Nursing in the daily clinical operations of LPC Surgery Center, LLC and Kokomo Ambulatory Surgery Center. The ADON provides clinical leadership, staff supervision, regulatory oversight, quality improvement support, and operational assistance while promoting safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.
The ADON serves as a clinical resource for nursing and support staff, provides direct supervision and support to the Nurse Navigator, assists with maintaining regulatory compliance and survey readiness, and assumes leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical Operations
- Assists with oversight of daily nursing operations for both ambulatory surgery centers.
- Provides direct clinical support as needed.
- Assists with patient flow, staffing assignments, and operational efficiency.
- Ensures quality patient care from admission through discharge.
- Serves as a resource for physicians and clinical staff.
- Participates in clinical problem solving and workflow improvement.
Leadership & Staff Support
- Assists in supervising nursing and clinical personnel.
- Provides direct supervision, coaching, scheduling support, performance feedback, and operational oversight for the Nurse Navigator.
- Collaborates with the Nurse Navigator to ensure timely coordination of patient care, referrals, prior authorizations, care navigation, and communication with providers.
- Provides daily coaching and mentoring to staff.
- Assists with orientation and onboarding of new employees.
- Participates in employee performance evaluations.
- Assists with employee counseling and corrective action as directed.
- Promotes teamwork and professional communication.
- Assists with staff scheduling and staffing coverage.
Regulatory Compliance
- Assists in maintaining continual survey readiness.

- Assists with preparation for regulatory surveys and inspections.
Quality Improvement
- Participates in the Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program.
- Collects and monitors quality indicators.
- Assists with audits and quality improvement projects.
- Participates in Root Cause Analyses.
- Assists in implementing corrective action plans.
Infection Prevention
- Assists in maintaining the Infection Prevention program.
- Monitors compliance with infection control practices.
- Conducts infection prevention audits.
- Assists with employee education regarding infection prevention.
- Collaborates with the Infection Preventionist.
Policy & Procedure Management
- Assists in reviewing and updating policies and procedures.
- Ensures staff receive education on policy changes.
- Supports implementation of regulatory updates.
Risk Management
- Assists with investigation of patient incidents and employee events.
- Ensures appropriate documentation is completed.
- Assists with corrective action plans and follow-up.
- Promotes a culture of patient safety.
Education & Competency
- Coordinates annual competencies.
- Assists with staff education and continuing education.
- Provides competency validation when appropriate.
- Supports ongoing clinical development of staff.
Operational Responsibilities
- Assists with supply and equipment management.
- Participates in emergency preparedness planning.
- Attends leadership, quality, Governing Body, and committee meetings as assigned.
- Assists with budget monitoring and cost-effective utilization of resources.
- Performs additional duties assigned by the Director of Nursing.
Acting Director Responsibilities
In the absence of the Director of Nursing, the ADON may assume responsibility for:
- Daily clinical operations
- Staff supervision
- Regulatory compliance

- Operational decision making
- Survey readiness activities
- Clinical staffing decisions
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provides direct supervision and leadership to:
- Registered Nurses
- Licensed Practical Nurses
- Nurse Navigator
- Medical Assistants
- Surgical Technologists
- Radiologic Technologists
- Clinical Support Staff
under the direction of the Director of Nursing.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current Indiana Registered Nurse license.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Minimum three (3) years of perioperative nursing experience.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Current BLS certification.
- Current ACLS certification.
- Working knowledge of AAAHC standards and CMS ambulatory surgery center regulations.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Physical Requirements
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, lifting, reaching, pushing, and pulling.

- Manual dexterity sufficient for clinical duties.
