Position Overview
The Peer Coach provides direct, recovery-oriented peer support to individuals and family members impacted by substance use and related challenges. This role offers coaching, resource navigation, and connection to recovery supports while helping create a welcoming, safe, and stigma-free environment.
Role Purpose
To build trust, offer hope, and support participants through practical guidance, recovery coaching, and connection to services, meeting people where they are and supporting multiple pathways to recovery.
Key Responsibilities
Direct Peer Support & Engagement
- Provide recovery coaching, check-ins, and ongoing participant support.
- Welcome walk-in participants and help assess immediate needs.
- Share lived experience appropriately to encourage hope and engagement while maintaining healthy boundaries.
- Support participants in identifying goals, strengths, and next steps in their recovery journey.
Resource Navigation & Service Coordination
- Connect participants and families to recovery supports, community resources, and partner services.
- Support referrals and warm handoffs when appropriate.
- Communicate participant needs, progress, and concerns to the Lead Coach or Program Coordinator.
Documentation & Program Support
- Complete required documentation accurately and on time.
- Follow established procedures, confidentiality standards, and data collection requirements.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, and required training.
- Help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming recovery support environment.
Professional Conduct & Team Culture
- Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.
- Treat participants, families, and coworkers with dignity and respect.
- Contribute positively to a supportive, collaborative team culture.

Required Qualifications
- Minimum two (2) years in recovery from alcohol and/or other substance use.
- DFCS involvement and/or Family Treatment Court graduate
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Passion for serving individuals and families impacted by addiction.
- Willingness to complete 40 hours of Recovery Coach training (CARES) within 12 months if not already certified.
- Ability to communicate respectfully with participants, families, partners, and team members.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively use computers and standard workplace technology, including email, electronic documentation systems, and basic data entry, with accuracy and reliability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior peer support, recovery coaching, or human services experience
- Familiarity with local recovery resources and community partners
Reporting Structure
- Reports to: Lead Coach or Program Coordinator
- Supervises: None
Scope of Impact
- Directly impacts participant experience and the quality of daily recovery support services.
- Executes organization services; does not supervise staff or manage organization systems.
Decision-Making Authority
- Makes decisions related to immediate participant needs within established organization guidelines.
- Escalates safety concerns, policy questions, or complex situations to the Lead Coach or Program Coordinator.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: $35,000–$40,000 annually
- Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, and funding availability
- Pay is issued bi-weekly
- Paid Time Off (PTO) is accrued from day one and available for use after 90 days
- One paid Self-Care Day per month available after 30 days of employment
- Birthday off during the employee’s birthday month
- Paid holidays (or replacement days off, as applicable)
- Regular pay and paid expenses are provided during required CARES training

Work Schedule & Environment
- Standard work schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with adjustments as needed based on organizational needs
- Work occurs primarily in a recovery support center and community-based settings
- Regular, direct interaction with participants, families, and community partners
