Duke Electric Co., Inc. is seeking an experienced Fiber Optic and Cabling Lead Technician to lead the installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of fiber optic and structured cabling systems for commercial, industrial, institutional, and government projects. This leadership position requires a highly skilled professional who can supervise field crews, coordinate daily project activities, ensure compliance with industry standards, and deliver high-quality telecommunications infrastructure safely and efficiently.
The successful candidate will oversee fiber optic installations from project planning through final testing and documentation while maintaining Duke Electric's commitment to quality workmanship, safety, and customer satisfaction. Projects may include fiber optic backbone systems, structured copper cabling, communication rooms, data centers, campus networks, and low-voltage communication systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise fiber optic and structured cabling technicians on multiple job sites.
- Install, terminate, splice, and test single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cables.
- Install Category 5e, Category 6, and Category 6A structured cabling systems.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
- Coordinate daily work assignments and monitor project schedules.
- Ensure all work complies with customer specifications, industry standards, and applicable codes.
- Perform fiber optic fusion splicing, connector termination, OTDR testing, power meter testing, and certification.
- Troubleshoot communication network issues and identify cable faults.
- Install cable pathways including conduit, cable trays, raceways, ladder racks, and supports.
- Label, organize, and document all cable installations accurately.
- Prepare testing reports, as-built drawings, and project documentation.
- Inspect completed installations to verify quality and system performance.
- Maintain project inventory, tools, testing equipment, and materials.
- Coordinate with project managers, customers, subcontractors, and other trades.
- Train and mentor junior technicians and apprentices.
- Promote a safe work environment by following OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
- Participate in project meetings and provide progress updates.
- Travel to customer locations as required.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Several years of experience in fiber optic installation, structured cabling, or telecommunications infrastructure.
- Previous experience leading installation crews or supervising technicians.
- Strong understanding of fiber optic cable types, structured cabling systems, and network infrastructure.
- Ability to read construction drawings and technical documentation.
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to pass pre-employment background screening and drug testing.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining effective teamwork.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates with:
- Fiber optic splicing certification.
- BICSI Technician or Installer certification.
- FOA (Fiber Optic Association) certification.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Experience with commercial or industrial communication systems.
- Knowledge of fire alarm, security, and access control systems.
- Experience using OTDRs, optical power meters, fusion splicers, and cable certification equipment.
- Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills.
