Lighting, Energy, Distributions is seeking skilled and versatile Home Weatherization & Energy Savings Specialists, General Home Improvement Technicians, and Experienced Insulators to evaluate residential properties and oversee the installation, removal, and quality of energy-efficiency and home-improvement measures. The ideal candidates will have a strong background in general maintenance and residential construction, with practical knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems, door and window replacement/repair, appliance replacement, and overall home improvement.
The positions require individuals who can inspect existing home conditions, identify opportunities for energy savings and improved performance, assist in completion, and verify that work is properly completed, and recognize potential installation or maintenance issues. A strong understanding of residential building systems and the ability to work effectively with contractors, installers, homeowners, and program personnel are essential.
Key Knowledge & Responsibilities
- Inspect residential properties for weatherization, energy-efficiency, and general home-improvement opportunities.
- Evaluate existing conditions involving HVAC, plumbing, electrical, insulation, ventilation, doors, windows, and other building components.
- Perform or oversee the installation and removal of appliances and equipment as required for weatherization and energy-saving projects.
- Demonstrate general maintenance skills and knowledge of residential repair and improvement practices.
- Possess general knowledge of HVAC systems, including heating, cooling, ventilation, ductwork, and basic system operation.
- Understand basic plumbing systems, fixtures, water-heating equipment, supply and drainage components, and common maintenance concerns.
- Understand basic electrical systems, including wiring, fixtures, outlets, switches, panels, and electrical safety considerations.
- Inspect and evaluate doors and windows, including replacement, installation, sealing, weatherstripping, and energy-performance considerations.
- Identify deficiencies related to air leakage, moisture, ventilation, insulation, and the overall building envelope.
- Assist in the installation of insulation performance of both attic and crawl areas.
- Review completed work to ensure installations meet applicable specifications, safety requirements, and quality standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve a home's energy efficiency, comfort, durability, and overall performance.
- Communicate inspection findings clearly and document existing conditions, recommended improvements, and completed work.
- Work with contractors and installation crews to help ensure proper workmanship and adherence to project requirements.
- Maintain a strong focus on job-site safety and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and program requirements.
Preferred Certifications & Qualifications

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a hands-on, mechanically inclined, detail-oriented professional who understands how the major systems of a home work together. Experience in residential maintenance, construction, weatherization, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, appliance installation, or general contracting is highly desirable.
The successful candidate should be comfortable entering residential properties, evaluating multiple building systems, recognizing potential problems, communicating technical findings, and ensuring that energy-saving and home-improvement measures are installed correctly and safely.
This position is particularly well suited for someone with broad residential construction and maintenance knowledge who can look at a home as an integrated system—from the HVAC equipment and plumbing to the electrical systems, doors, windows, insulation, and building envelope—with the goal of improving energy efficiency, safety, comfort, and overall home performance.
