Job Overview

Job Description Cardiology Nurse Practitioner (Office & Hospital Rounds)Position Summary

The Cardiology Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides comprehensive, high-quality cardiovascular care in both the outpatient clinic and hospital setting. Working collaboratively with cardiologists and the healthcare team, the NP evaluates, diagnoses, and manages patients with acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions while promoting continuity of care from hospital to office follow-up.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Outpatient Office Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, including medical history and physical examinations.
Assess, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic cardiovascular diseases.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
Order, interpret, and communicate laboratory tests, imaging studies, and diagnostic procedures.
Prescribe medications and adjust treatment plans in accordance with state regulations and clinical guidelines.
Perform pre-operative and post-operative cardiovascular evaluations.
Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, lifestyle modifications, and disease prevention.
Coordinate care with primary care providers, specialists, and ancillary healthcare professionals.
Document patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical protocols.

Hospital Responsibilities

Perform daily hospital rounds on assigned cardiology patients.
Evaluate admissions, consultations, and follow-up patients.
Collaborate with attending cardiologists regarding patient management and treatment plans.
Monitor hospitalized patients' clinical status and respond to changes in condition.
Order and interpret laboratory studies, diagnostic imaging, and cardiovascular testing.
Coordinate patient discharges, including medication reconciliation, discharge summaries, and follow-up appointments.
Communicate with hospital staff, consultants, patients, and family members regarding treatment plans.
Assist with hospital documentation, admissions, consultations, and progress notes.
Participate in call coverage as assigned. Extra Pay for coverage

Clinical Responsibilities

Diagnose and manage cardiovascular conditions including, but not limited to:
Coronary artery disease
Heart failure
Arrhythmias
Hypertension
Hyperlipidemia
Valvular heart disease
Peripheral vascular disease
Pulmonary hypertension
Interpret ECGs, cardiac monitors, laboratory results, and diagnostic imaging.
Assist with pre- and post-procedure management for cardiac catheterizations, pacemaker procedures, stress testing, echocardiography, and other cardiovascular procedures.
Ensure compliance with evidence-based cardiovascular guidelines.

Qualifications

Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Current Florida Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license.
National certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP), or Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP).
Current DEA registration.
Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
Minimum of two years of cardiology experience preferred.
Hospital rounding experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with physicians.
Knowledge of current cardiovascular treatment guidelines.
Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR).
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to travel between office locations and affiliated hospitals.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
Ability to respond promptly to urgent patient care needs.

Schedule

Full-time
Monday through Friday
Office clinic and hospital rounding responsibilities
Participation in rotating call schedule, as assigned
