Licensed Pyschiatric Technician (LPT) Opportunities!

This position administers nursing care to designated patients under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. Performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care duties including but not limited to:

1. Assists the Charge/Staff Nurse to organize and deliver patient care, and to supervise staff.

2. Collects data related to the patient’s condition and reports it promptly to the Charge/Staff Nurse, including assessing for pain, utilizing the pain scale and documenting accordingly.

3. Follows safety procedures. Utilizes appropriate observation level for patient: Q15 minute checks, 1:1 monitoring, and/or specific precautions.

4. Provides direction and orients new staff in a welcoming manner. Demonstrates thorough knowledge and adherence to hospital policy and procedures.

5. Self-directed, recognizes what needs to be done and takes action.

6. Uses good judgment and needs minimal supervision, but able to recognize when needs to confer with Charge/Staff Nurse or House Supervisor prior to making decisions.

7. Provides nursing care, within the scope of practice, to meet the unique needs of each patient.

8. Assists in the delivery of patient care in an acute psychiatric setting for patients experiencing a wide range of psychiatric and medical conditions.

9. Practices the “5 Rights” of medication administration. Ensures that medication consents are obtained and signed prior to administering psychotropic medications.

10. Initiates appropriate infection control interventions and adds to the treatment plan when medications are ordered to treat a medical issue.
