Join a well-established, quality Before and After School team! The Lancaster Recreation Commission is recruiting qualified candidates to fill Group Supervisor positions in its state-certified child care programs. Before and After School sites are located in School District of Lancaster elementary schools and include children in Kindergarten to 5th grade.
The Lancaster Recreation Commission participates in the state Keystone STARS quality child care initiative.
Group Supervisors plan and conduct activities and lessons to support each child’s development and learning. Our activity-based curriculum helps children meet state standards in academic areas, reinforce classroom learning, improve social and communication skills and become more physically active.
Hours are part-time, Monday-Friday, from 6:30 to 8:45 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. plus planning time during the school year. The second Wednesday of each month After School begins at 12 p.m. Expanded hours are available during the summer months.
Qualifications: Completion of an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university with an Associate’s degree or its equivalent in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, Elementary Education, or the Human Services field. In addition, 2 years of work experience related to the care and development of children is required.
Duties:
- Supervise all staff assigned to the site. Manage employee schedules, accurate recording and reporting of time worked, arrange coverage to meet required ratios. Provide a minimum of 2 annual written staff observations and evaluations in accordance with Lancaster Rec policies, State licensing, and quality rating system standards.
- Communicate with the staff on a daily basis regarding the site and information from the office
- Adhere to the small group ratio established by DHS, contacting the Director when staff coverage is needed.
- Uphold all Lancaster Rec/DHS/ Keystone Stars guidelines for overall commitment to quality in child care.

- Attend and hold staff meetings monthly.
- Participate in fundraising activities.

- Coordinate, plan, and implement dynamic curricula that insure child centered, age appropriate lessons are offered.
- Coordinates activities with Assistant Group Supervisors and Aides.

- Direct and maintain control of environments that build children’s self-esteem. Utilize positive reinforcement techniques for redirection as a form of behavior management
- Communicate effectively and timely with parents/guardians regarding children's program experience, progress (written as well as verbal) daily/weekly. Maintain confidentiality, use sensitivity, and patience at all times.
- Works cooperatively with other staff members and helps promote a positive atmosphere.
- Meet deadlines: Ensure monthly lesson plans, weekly and specialized reports, and supply requests are submitted and managed in a timely manner. Plan and manage time and resources effectively.

- Weekly Friday envelop delivered to Lancaster Rec Office by 8:00am Monday
- Supply orders by the 15 of every month
- Develops and maintains positive communication with school personnel: Principal, Secretary, Custodians and children’s classroom Teachers as appropriate.
- Check mailbox at schools and mailbox at Lancaster Rec on a daily basis.
- Documents all accidents and injuries on an “Accident Report” form.
- Administers any medication that is filled out properly on the medication log.
- Keeps registration forms current and up to date.

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
