This position is a full-time tenure track, 10-month classroom teaching assignment in the Health & Safety Sciences Division. Paramedic Instructor reports directly to the Director of Emergency Medical Services Programs. The Paramedic Lead Instructor provides quality learning experiences, facilitates the learning process, advises students, seeks professional development opportunities, and contributes to the development of courses/programs. The current teaching load is 15 lecture hour equivalents per semester. Faculty are also responsible for 5 office hours per week and are expected to devote as much time as necessary to perform the professional responsibilities of the position. Participation in professional activities, curriculum development and campus committees is expected. The teaching assignment may include courses offered in either onsite, online and/or hybrid format, evening and/or Saturday classes.
- Most current Minimum Qualifications for Faculty in California Community Colleges: (Applicant must meet one of the following requirements)
Any Bachelor’s or higher AND two years of professional experience, OR Any associate degree and six years of professional experience OR the equivalent.
AND
a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students (tit. 5 § 53024.1).
ADDITIONAL REQUIRRED QUALIFICATIONS:-
Three year’s EMS experience at the paramedic level of certification.

Current CPR certification.

Must have current valid, non-probationary California Paramedic License, MD, or RN license.

NAEMSE Instructor I or similar 40hr education course that meets the requirements in the California Code of Regulations, Title 22, Social Security, Division 9, Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Services, Chapter 4, Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic, Article 3, 100150 (b), Teaching Staff, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:-
Bachelor’s Degree.

National Registry of EMTs (NRP).

Two year’s post-secondary instructor experience.

NAEMT Instructor (all disciplines, incl: EPC, GEMS, EVOS, PHTLs/ITLS, AMLS)

AHA Instructor (all disciplines, incl: BLS, ACLS, PALS).
KNOWLEDGE OF:
-
Current technologies, personal computer, and associated office software such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and/or database software

Correct usage of English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary; and
-
District policies and procedures.
ABILITY TO:-
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties; and

Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and of staff and students with physical and learning disabilities.
PHYSICAL ABILITY TO:-
Read and comprehend printed matter and text and data on computer monitors

Communicate intelligibly and effectively via speech, telephone, written correspondence, and/or email

Sit or stand for extended periods of time

Lift and/or carry 50 pounds

Exert manual dexterity sufficient for keyboard and other office equipment operation.
