About Us
Since 2000, Keefer Contractors has built a reputation across Central Ohio for detailed craftsmanship and custom-designed home remodeling. What started as a one-person owner/operator company has grown into one of the region's most respected residential general contractors, with a track record of safety, quality, and projects finished on time. Our work includes kitchens, baths, basements, room additions, and outdoor living spaces — and it has earned us multiple NARI Contractor of the Year awards.
We're looking for an experienced Lead Carpenter to run our jobsites and represent our work in our clients' homes.
The Role
As Lead Carpenter, you are the face of Keefer Contractors on the jobsite. You'll run one project at a time from demo through punch list — performing the skilled carpentry yourself, directing helpers and subcontractors, keeping the schedule on track, and communicating with the homeowner day to day. This is a hands-on role for a craftsman who takes pride in the finished product and can manage a job without someone standing over their shoulder.
What You'll Do
- Perform skilled carpentry across all phases of residential remodeling — light framing, interior and exterior trim, door and window installation, cabinet setting, hardware, and finish work
- Run the jobsite day to day: sequence the work, stage materials, and keep the project on schedule
- Read and work from plans, drawings, and specifications
- Handle light mechanical work that does not require a trade license — demo and disconnect prep, layout and blocking for boxes, fixtures, supply lines, and drains, and fixture setting and trim-out
- Understand how electrical and plumbing systems are laid out and routed well enough to plan and frame around them — catch conflicts between structure and rough-in before they're covered up, and know when the work needs to be turned over to a licensed trade
- Coordinate and oversee subcontractors and helpers on site; verify their work meets our standards before it's covered up
- Serve as the primary on-site contact for the homeowner — answer questions, set expectations, and flag issues early
- Communicate daily with the project manager/office on progress, material needs, change orders, and anything that could affect schedule or budget
- Identify problems and field conditions early and bring solutions, not just issues
- Maintain a clean, safe, organized jobsite; protect the client's home and belongings throughout the project
- Complete punch list items and hand off a finished job the client is happy to live with

What We're Looking For
Required
- 2-3+ years of hands-on residential construction or remodeling experience
- Demonstrated skill in both rough and finish carpentry
- Ability to read and work from plans and specifications
- Working familiarity with residential electrical and plumbing systems — enough to handle light, non-licensed tasks and to frame and plan around rough-in correctly
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Own basic carpentry hand and power tools
- Strong communication skills — comfortable talking directly with homeowners in a professional, respectful way
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field
- Reliable, punctual, and accountable
- Able to lift [50–75] lbs, work on ladders and scaffolding, and handle the physical demands of remodeling work
Preferred
- Prior experience leading a crew or running jobs as a lead carpenter, foreman, or superintendent
- Experience in high-end or custom residential remodeling
- Familiarity with residential building codes
Who Thrives Here
- Workmanship. You don't leave work behind you that you wouldn't want in your own home.
