Full Job Description

Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to provide essential care and support to individuals with intelletual and developmental disabilities in a day program. The ideal candidate will be committed to enhancing the quality of life for those they assist, ensuring that each individual receives personalized care tailored to their unique needs. This role requires a blend of interpersonal skills, practical caregiving abilities, and a genuine passion for helping others.

Requirements

Previous experience in direct support is a must
Background in social work or experience working with people with disabilities is highly desirable.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team while also being able to work independently when necessary.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with clients, families, and healthcare providers.
Compassionate demeanor with a strong commitment to providing high-quality care.
Must be willing to undergo background checks as required by state regulations.

Responsibilities

Assist individuals with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, eating, or toileting.
Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with healthcare professionals and family members.
Maintain a healthy and safe work environment
Monitor and record vital signs as needed, ensuring any changes in health status are communicated promptly.
Provide support in social activities , encouraging independence and engagement.
Assist individuals with mobility needs
Document care provided and maintain accurate records of services rendered as required by agency policies.
Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance caregiving skills.
May work with individual on a 1:1 basis as needed
Follow all LVS policies and procedures
Support LVS mission
All tasks as assigned by supervisor

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods of time
Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and squatting
May need to assist with lifting an individual
Good vision to read documents, computer screens, and write reports
Good hearing to interact effectively with participants and colleagues in person or by phone
May need to transfer participants in and out of wheelchairs or vehicles,
Able to operate a hoyer lift and sit to stand lift
Must have good motor skills needed to assist with eating, toileting, and hygiene
Ability to write, type, and input data into electronic systems
Tolerance for working in high-stress or emotionally demanding environments
Ability to respond in physical and quick emergency situations
