Job Summary
Byler Holdings is a multi-entity organization with operations across roughly 26 business locations and an active pipeline of construction and capital projects. We are creating a dedicated Fixed Asset Accounting Manager position to own the fixed asset function end to end — not just to maintain the register, but to rebuild it.

This is a build-and-own role. The first year is heavy on reconciliation, cleanup, and standardization: bringing legacy asset records into agreement across entities, retiring what should have been retired years ago, aligning asset classes and useful lives, and establishing a work-in-progress process that actually reflects how our construction projects run. From there, the role shifts toward stewardship and continuous improvement — a permanent seat as the person who owns capital assets for the organization.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable inheriting imperfect data and methodical enough to fix it, but who also has the perspective to redesign the process rather than simply clean up inside the old one.

Duties

Maintain the complete fixed asset register across all entities: additions, transfers between entities and locations, disposals, and retirements
Determine capitalization versus expense treatment in line with company policy and GAAP, and advise operations and project staff on gray-area items
Establish and maintain consistent asset classes, useful lives, and naming conventions across every company file
Own asset master data quality — including tagging, location assignment, and the identification and removal of ghost assets

Construction Projects and Work in Progress

Serve as the finance owner for capital construction projects, from project setup through placed-in-service
Accumulate and review project costs in WIP, working directly with project managers and operations to validate coding and completeness
Redesign and implement the organization's work-in-progress process, including intake, cost capture, review cadence, and the criteria and mechanics for closing WIP into service
Determine placed-in-service dates and execute the transfer from WIP to depreciable assets on a timely basis
Report on WIP balances and project status to finance leadership

Depreciation and Multi-Book Accounting

Run and review monthly depreciation across all books maintained in house — GAAP, MACRS, bonus, and applicable state books
Reconcile the fixed asset subledger to the general ledger for every entity, monthly, with documented support
Prepare fixed asset roll-forwards and depreciation schedules for internal reporting, audit, and tax preparation
Maintain consistency of methods, conventions, and elections across all company files, and resolve the differences that exist today

Systems and Process

Own the fixed asset system: configuration, data integrity, and integration with Sage Intacct
Contribute to the selection, implementation, and data migration of fixed asset software as that project advances
Draft and maintain the capitalization policy and supporting desk procedures
Own the fixed asset tasks within the monthly close template and drive them to on-time completion
Identify opportunities to automate and simplify — this role is expected to leave the function in better shape than it found it

Experience

Proven experience managing fixed asset accounting within a corporate or non-profit environment.
Strong knowledge of IFRS, GAAP, SOX compliance, and regulatory reporting standards.
Demonstrated ability to lead accounting teams effectively while managing multiple priorities.
Extensive experience with accounting software such as Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or similar platforms; proficiency in Excel data analysis is essential.
Familiarity with governmental or public sector accounting practices is a plus.
Excellent understanding of financial concepts including double entry bookkeeping, account reconciliation, cost analysis, and financial reporting.
Prior experience in financial close processing, balance sheet reconciliation, and accounts payable/receivable functions is highly desirable.
