Full Job Description

A growing, multi-entity real estate and development organization is seeking an Assistant Controller for a key role within its accounting team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accountant who is ready for more ownership, broader exposure, and a clear path toward becoming a Controller. You’ll work closely with the VP of Finance and gain hands-on experience across multiple operating companies and development entities spanning real estate, property management, construction, and related businesses.

Rather than being siloed into one area of accounting, you’ll have visibility into the full financial picture of the organization and play an important role in keeping accounting operations running smoothly as the company continues to grow.

The company offers a hybrid schedule, flexible start and end times, strong benefits, and a newly renovated downtown York office.

What You’ll Do

Take ownership of day-to-day accounting across multiple operating entities and development companies
Manage general ledger activity and play a key role in the monthly close process
Prepare and review monthly financial statements and internal financial reporting
Oversee accounts payable, credit card activity, expense reporting, and account reconciliations
Manage intercompany transactions, allocations, and billbacks across entities
Ensure construction, development, and project-related costs are accurately coded and allocated
Perform and review bank reconciliations and maintain accurate balance sheet accounts
Support payroll review and ensure information is accurate prior to final approval
Partner closely with the VP of Finance on accounting processes, reporting, and ongoing improvements
Assist with select HR and employee administration responsibilities
Continue taking on higher-level accounting and financial responsibilities as you progress toward a Controller role

What They’re Looking For

3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience
Strong general ledger, reconciliation, and month-end close experience
Experience preparing or reviewing financial statements
Ability to manage accounting responsibilities across multiple entities, departments, or projects
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment
Someone who enjoys taking ownership, solving problems, and working independently while collaborating closely with leadership
Experience within construction, real estate, property management, development, HVAC, or another project- or service-oriented industry is highly desirable
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
Strong candidates with relevant hands-on accounting experience are encouraged to apply even if they do not meet every preferred qualification

Salary up to $100,000, depending on experience
