Full Job Description

Sheet Metal Mechanic

Lancaster, PA Area

$24–$32 per hour, based on experience

Full-Time | Monday through Friday | Year-Round Work

We are seeking an experienced Sheet Metal Mechanic to fabricate and install architectural sheet metal and standing seam metal roofing systems throughout the Lancaster area.

This is not an entry-level position, and we are not looking to train someone from the ground up. Applicants must have professional sheet metal or metal roofing experience and be able to perform quality work without constant supervision.

The majority of the work involves custom flashing, trim, gutters, downspouts, wall panels, and other architectural sheet metal components. Candidates must be comfortable working both in the field and with the tools and equipment required to measure, fabricate, fit, seam, and finish sheet metal properly.

Pay and Benefits

$24–$32 per hour, based on experience
Full-time, year-round employment

What You’ll Be Doing

Fabricating and installing architectural sheet metal components
Installing standing seam concealed-fastener metal roofing systems
Measuring, laying out, cutting, bending, fitting, and fastening sheet metal
Operating sheet metal brakes and other fabrication equipment
Using hand seamers and mechanical roof-seaming equipment
Fabricating and installing flashing, trim, coping, ridge caps, valleys, and transitions
Installing gutters, downspouts, wall panels, roof curbs, and related components
Completing detailed work around penetrations, edges, corners, and roof transitions
Reading measurements, drawings, specifications, and jobsite instructions
Identifying installation problems and making proper field adjustments
Performing metal roof repairs, replacements, and finish work
Assisting with other commercial roofing systems when needed
Working safely on ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and rooftops
Keeping jobsites clean, organized, and productive

Required Experience

Professional sheet metal fabrication or architectural metal installation experience
Ability to independently measure, lay out, cut, bend, fabricate, and install sheet metal
Experience operating a sheet metal brake
Experience using hand seamers or mechanical roof seamers
Knowledge of flashing, trim, coping, valleys, ridges, penetrations, and transitions
Ability to read measurements, drawings, and job specifications
Comfortable working at heights and following fall-protection requirements
Ability to lift and carry sheet metal panels, roofing materials, tools, and equipment
Reliable transportation
Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic
Ability to work outdoors year-round in changing weather conditions

Preferred Experience

Commercial and architectural sheet metal experience
Custom flashing and trim fabrication experience
Experience with wall panels, gutters, downspouts, and coping
Experience with EPDM, TPO, rubber roofing, shingles, or other commercial roofing systems
OSHA or fall-protection training
Valid driver’s license

This Position Is Not a Fit For

Applicants with no professional sheet metal or metal roofing experience
Entry-level applicants looking to learn the trade
General laborers who have never fabricated or installed sheet metal
Residential shingle roofers without standing seam or sheet metal experience
Anyone who cannot safely and comfortably work at heights
Applicants who require constant supervision to complete basic sheet metal work

The Right Person for This Job

You should be able to step onto a project, take accurate measurements, operate a brake, fabricate the necessary pieces, and install them correctly.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in clean bends, straight panels, tight seams, watertight flashing, accurate measurements, and professional finish work. You must be dependable, productive, safety-conscious, and willing to work as part of a team.
