Director of Operations – National Multi-Unit Food Service Operations

Base Salary: $200,000 + Generous Quarterly Bonus + Company Vehicle

Travel: 60–80%

At Military Deli & Bakery Services (MDBS), we're proud to support America's military families by operating over 100 deli and bakery departments inside military commissaries across the United States. Every day, our teams serve those who serve our country, and we're looking for an exceptional operations leader to help shape the future of our organization.

This is not a "keep the trains running" operations role.

We're looking for a visionary, hands-on leader who can evaluate how work gets done, eliminate inefficiencies, build scalable systems, develop future leaders, and elevate operational excellence across our entire organization.

What You'll Do

As our Director of Operations, you'll provide strategic leadership for field operations across all company locations while partnering closely with Regional Directors, District Managers, Human Resources, Category Management, Accounting, Store Support, and Executive Leadership.

You'll be responsible for driving consistency, accountability, profitability, and exceptional execution across the country.

Your Responsibilities

Lead, coach, and develop Regional Directors to achieve operational excellence.
Drive consistent execution of company standards, initiatives, and operational programs nationwide.
Analyze operational performance, financial results, labor, productivity, customer service, and food safety metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.
Partner cross-functionally with HR, Training, Category Management, Accounting, Administration, and Executive Leadership to support field operations.
Evaluate operational workflows, redesign processes, and lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies to create scalable, standardized operating models that improve efficiency, execution, and consistency across every location.
Identify best practices in the field and successfully implement them company-wide.
Lead organizational change and ensure new initiatives are effectively adopted throughout the business.
Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety requirements, government regulations, and operational standards.
Develop operational dashboards, KPIs, and performance accountability systems that drive measurable results.
Build a strong leadership pipeline by creating succession plans, defining role competencies, and implementing development programs that prepare employees for advancement.
Foster a culture centered on accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and servant leadership.
Travel extensively to support operations, coach leaders, and ensure consistent execution across all locations.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking someone who has successfully led large, geographically dispersed multi-unit operations and enjoys rolling up their sleeves to solve problems.

Qualifications

10+ years of progressive multi-unit operations leadership experience in grocery, foodservice, deli/bakery, retail, convenience, restaurant, QSR, or similar multi-location environments.
Demonstrated experience leading organizational change and operational transformation.
Strong financial acumen with experience managing KPIs, P&Ls, labor, productivity, inventory, and operational performance.
Experience implementing Lean, Six Sigma, continuous improvement, or operational excellence initiatives.
Exceptional coaching, communication, and leadership development skills.
Advanced analytical ability with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Comfortable traveling approximately 60–80% of the time.
Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field preferred.

Physical Requirements:

This position works from a home office with company-provided equipment.
Must be available to work during normal business hours plus evenings and including weekends.
Ability to read and analyze extensive data sources both on a computer screen and written hard copy.
Carrying and lifting 30-50 lbs.
Operate equipment while standing for entire shift.
Frequent repetitive motion using deli meat and cheese slicers.
