Job Description

General Purpose of Job:

The Public Safety Operations Center Supervisor will support the Operations Center Manager and will supervise the Public Safety Operation Center Dispatchers. The DPS Ops Center Supervisor will communicate a shared vision with the areas of responsibility that motivates others to achieve operation goals and objectives. The DPS Ops Center Supervisor shall support and encourages teamwork, productivity, customer service, and continues quality improvement.

They shall be knowledge of all policy, procedures, and laws, related to emergency dispatch and call taker methods and must be able to demonstrate independent judgment.

Essential Duties:

This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

Provide daily, direct supervision for the dispatch team members in the Public Safety Operations Center.
Instruct, assign, review, and plan work for others; maintain standards, coordinates activities, address team member conflict, recommend transfers, promotions, disciplines and discharges of dispatch team members.
Develop team member schedules and ensures sufficient staffing. Manages timekeeping for the Operations Center Dispatchers.
Perform radio, phone call, and daily log audits to evaluate performance.
Oversees emergency mass messaging for the hospital.
Oversite of Law Enforcement Information Network, packing records, audits, acts as a back up Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC), ensuring all regulatory standards are in compliance.
Ensures all LEIN administrative messages are received and responded to.
Ensures all LEIN warrants are updated and removed from system once served or dismissed.
Maintains knowledge of all properties and related Public Safety technologies to ensure proper response to calls for service.
Utilize and demonstrate competency in the use of various technologies and software applications in the dispatch center (IP Cameras, alarm systems, access control systems, ID badging, elevator monitoring, MSDS, intercoms, radios, paging, etc)
Assist with management of personnel budget and contributes to operations and capital expenditure budget.
Partakes in hospital wide committees.
Maintains required licensure for emergency operations communication telecommunicator
Maintain a suitable background including absence of any felony conviction and specific misdemeanor convictions for LEIN Compliance.
Assist the frontline as needed during high call volumes and staffing challenges.

Job Requirements

Work Experience

Minimum of 3 years previous dispatch experience or related field approved by hiring leadership.

Education

• Associates Degree in a Social Science program, Law, Emergency Management, Business, Public/Police/Security or Safety Administration or related program and 3 years previous dispatch/related experience OR • High School Diploma/GED and 5 years previous dispatch or related experience. • Must be able to complete LEIN basic training within 6 months of hire. • Must complete Security Awareness Training for Security role within 30 days of hire. • Certification in crisis intervention within 6 months of hire. • Certification in Basic 911 dispatch course in 6 months of hire. • Certification in Advance 911 dispatch course in 6 months of hire or when first applicable. • Certification for Dispatch Supervisor course with in 1 year of hire. • Certificate in FEMA IS 100.c, IS – 200.c, IS – 700.b, IS 800.c. within 3 months of hire.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

• Proven leadership skills • Basic understanding of emergency management • Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Time management and organizational skills. Self-directed and able to work independently as well as with a team. Ability to make quality, independent decisions as well as being able to be analytical with strong problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively and efficiently under tight deadlines, high volumes and multiple interruptions. Ability to maintain the strictest levels of confidentiality. Ability to listen to others with a sympathetic ear. • Demonstrates ability to use a computer and multiple software programs including security technology which is an essential role of this position. • Able to perform in a work environment with high pressure, stressful situations and ever-changing circumstances. • Able to read situations and understand the importance of customer service and has the ability to be assertive when needed. • Able to demonstrate confidence while remaining calm. • Knowledgeable in Police Procedures, Federal Law and State of Michigan Law. • Must be able to complete training and demonstrate proficiency regularly as required by the department. • Must be able to complete federal background and fingerprint check for access to Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS). This will occur not more than every 5 years or as directed by the department. • Demonstrates professionalism and a positive attitude. • Trustworthy – Ability to maintain the strictest levels of confidentiality.
