Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Accounting & Payroll Manager to oversee the accounting operations and payroll department functions for our organization to include the direct management of all accounting & payroll staff. This key management role offers an exciting opportunity to lead our team by providing oversight in the financial processes for our clients and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. This individual will bring accurate technical skills, the ability to utilize modern software tools to drive efficiency, and a dedication to client financial management to this position. The ideal candidate will hold an active CPA license with tax experience; however, exceptionally qualified candidates with deep payroll and accounting expertise combined with a strong technology proficient background will be considered. Salary to commensurate with experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Payroll Department Management

Lead and manage the payroll department, including supervision, coaching, and performance management of payroll staff.
Oversee end-to-end payroll operations to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across the organization.
Establish, document, and continuously improve payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
Oversee payroll tax filings, W-2s, 1099s, and all related reporting; coordinate resolutions of discrepancies or audits.
Serve as the primary escalation point for complex payroll issues, corrections, and employee inquiries.
Partner with HR, Finance, and Benefits teams to ensure accurate deductions, garnishments, benefit contributions, and system integrations.
Manage payroll calendars, vendor relationships, and service-level expectations.
Analyze payroll data and produce reports to support management, audits, and financial reviews.
Lead payroll system upgrades, implementations, and process automation initiatives.

Accounting & Financial Department Management

Lead and manage the accounting department, including supervision, coaching, and performance management of accounting staff.
Manage the full-cycle accounting function for clients including general ledger, journal entries, and month-end/year-end close processes.
Prepare and review financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
Maintain chart of accounts and ensure accuracy and integrity of all financial data.
Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
Coordinate with external auditors and manage audit preparation.

Tax & Compliance

Prepare or coordinate preparation of business tax returns and related schedules (preferred).
Monitor changes in tax laws and ensure ongoing organizational compliance.
Manage sales tax, use tax, and other state/local tax obligations as applicable

Technology & Systems

Administer and optimize accounting and payroll software platforms.
Identify and implement technology solutions to streamline financial operations
Build and maintain reports, dashboards, and automated workflows.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications

Active CPA license
Experience with business or individual tax preparation and planning
5+ years of progressive accounting and payroll experience
5+ years of supervisory experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

Required Qualifications (if CPA/tax experience not held)

Demonstrated mastery of full-cycle payroll processing and payroll tax compliance
Strong working knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and financial reporting
Proven ability to manage all accounting functions independently and accurately
Experience working with accounting & payroll platforms (e.g., QuickBooks, ADP, Paychex, Gusto, Sage, or similar)
High degree of technology proficiency — including advanced use of accounting/payroll software, Excel/Google Sheets, and openness to adopting new tools

Pay: $75,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
