Position Description:
The Business Development Coordinator plays a central role in advancing the organization’s efforts to drive investment, support business growth, and strengthen Lansing’s economic vitality. This position serves as a key connector between the organization, local businesses, developers, and community partners, helping to ensure that opportunities for growth and development are identified, supported, and successfully executed.
This position supports the attraction, retention, and expansion of businesses across the city of Lansing. They assist in managing project pipelines, conducting market and site research, preparing proposals and presentations, and coordinating communications with prospective and existing clients. The role requires a strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
The Business Development Coordinator also contributes to the organization’s broader strategic efforts by supporting marketing and outreach activities, assisting with events, and helping to tell Lansing’s story as a competitive and opportunity-rich place to invest. They work collaboratively across the organization and with external stakeholders to align efforts, leverage resources, and enhance the overall impact of Lansing EDC’s work.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
The Business Development Coordinator will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Lead and manage the business retention and expansion program, including direct outreach, site visits, and ongoing relationship management with Lansing-based employers.
- Support business attraction efforts, including responding to prospect inquiries, coordination of site visits, and site selection support.
- Assist with site selection efforts by maintaining property inventories and support identification and positioning of priority development sites.
- Identify business needs, challenges, and expansion opportunities, and connect companies to available resources to support their growth.
- Manage all aspects of economic development programs and incentives administered by the organization, including intake, qualification, analysis, engagement, approvals, tracking, etc.
- Maintain and actively manage a pipeline of projects, ensuring progress, accountability, and alignment with organizational priorities.
- Maintain accurate and actionable pipeline data, ensuring timely follow-up and conversion.
- Prepare briefing materials, reports, and presentations for leadership and stakeholders.
- Serve as a trusted, key point of contact for businesses, developers, and partners, representing the Lansing EDC professionally and maintaining strong working relationships across sectors.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders and other local, regional, and state partners to align strategy and execution of shared economic development goals.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in economic development business administration, urban planning, public administration, or a related field of study preferred, but not required.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in economic development, business development, real estate, finance, or related discipline.
- Knowledge and understanding of basic concepts and techniques of economic development, municipal development processes, public-private partnerships and regulatory environments.
- Valid driver’s license and the use of a personal vehicle for work purposes.

- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage a broad and diverse range of stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
- High level of self-direction, initiative, and accountability, with a results-driven mindset.
- Familiarity with data tools, project management software and CRM programs, such as Zoom Prospector, CoStar, and Pipedrive.
- Proficiency in use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
- Sound judgement and discretion in handling confidential and highly sensitive information.
- Strong relationship management and business acumen, with the ability to build trust, understand business needs, and translate them into actionable solutions.
