Senior Contract Litigation Attorney – Remote | Flexible 0–10+ Hours/Week
Thomas Williams McConnell PLLC, an Austin-based business litigation and trial boutique, seeks an experienced Texas-licensed litigator to assist with sophisticated commercial litigation on an ongoing, but project-by-project basis.
Our docket ranges from quiet to all-hands-on-deck, so weekly commitments may vary from zero hours to approximately ten, and occasionally more by mutual agreement. This role is designed for an experienced lawyer who enjoys complex disputes, values schedule flexibility, and can step into a case quickly and produce excellent work with minimal supervision.
If you enjoy collaborating with lawyers who take their craft—but not themselves—too seriously, we should talk.
What You’ll Do
- Research difficult legal issues and provide clear, practical analysis.
- Draft and revise pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests, discovery responses, and other substantive litigation materials.
- Analyze contracts, emails, deposition transcripts, financial records, and other substantial case records and distill the important facts into clear, persuasive summaries.
- Develop chronologies, factual analyses, and case assessments that identify what matters and why.
- Take ownership of discrete litigation assignments from issue identification through polished work product.
- Depending on experience and interest, assist with depositions, hearings, witness preparation, and other aspects of case development.
What You Bring
- Active Texas law license in good standing. Physical residence anywhere in the United States is fine.
- At least five years of meaningful civil litigation experience.
- Commercial or business litigation experience strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with Texas state-court practice and the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure.
- Familiarity with federal court practice and the FRCP.
- Strong legal research skills, including proficiency with Westlaw or comparable research platforms.
- Exceptional legal writing. We value writing that is clear, concise, persuasive, and precise.
- Sound judgment, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
- Responsiveness when accepting an assignment and the ability to meet agreed deadlines.
- A strategic mindset, performance under pressure, and the ability to plug in quickly when workflow spikes.
- Proof of professional liability insurance, or willingness to be added to the firm’s policy for matters worked.
The Arrangement
- $140 per hour for approved time. Payment will ordinarily be made after the firm receives payment from the client for the corresponding services, but in no event later than 60 days after submission of the attorney's invoice.
- Flexible, project-based workload, generally 0–10 hours per week.
- No guaranteed minimum number of hours.
- Some weeks may involve no assignments; others may require up to approximately 10 hours, and occasionally more by mutual agreement.
- Fully remote.
- Assignments and availability agreed upon in advance.
- No expectation that you will accept every assignment. You control your availability and capacity.
The Work
Our matters include complex disputes involving business torts, fiduciary duties, fraud, contracts, corporate governance, and other high-stakes commercial matters. This is substantive litigation work—not a document-review position. You will work directly with the lawyers responsible for developing strategy and trying the case.
If the prospect of flexible but sophisticated litigation work appeals to you, please apply with a résumé and a substantive legal writing sample, preferably a brief or motion principally written by you.
